Royals' Yordano Ventura: Dies in car accident
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura died in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic, the Kansas City Star reports.

A sad day for the Royals and all of baseball. One of the stars of the 2015 World Championship team, Ventura was just 25 and had been with the Royals since 2013.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Confirmed as Friday's starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (back) has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Indians, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

Ventura left his last start with a back injury, but the setback will not prevent him from taking the mound Friday night and making one more start before the regular season comes to a close.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Listed as Friday's starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (back) is listed as the probable starter for Friday's game against the Indians.

Lower-back tightness and spasms cut short Ventura's last outing after four innings, but he probably wasn't long for that game anyway (three runs allowed on 10 hits and two walks). It seems he made it through his between-starts bullpen session without any further complications, as he's set to make his final start of the 2016 campaign opposite lefty Ryan Merritt.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Leaves game with back injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura left Saturday's game with lower-back tightness and spasms, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.

After throwing a complete game his last time out, Ventura was roughed up for three runs on 10 hits and two walks in four innings Saturday against Detroit prior to exiting the game. He was scheduled to make one more start before the end of the regular season, but his status for that outing is now uncertain and will remain that way until the team sees how he progresses in the coming days.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Leaves game with apparent injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura left Saturday's game with an apparent injury, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

While it wasn't obvious what was ailing Ventura, he left the field with the head athletic trainer, so clearly something was bothering him. Ventura was knocked around for three runs on 10 hits during his four innings on the mound. He walked two and struck out six (85 pitches).

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Tosses complete game in win over White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (11-11) earned a complete-game win against the White Sox on Monday, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

The 25-year-old righty turned things around in his 30th start of the year after giving up 10 runs over his prior two outings. Ventura did allow five extra-base hits -- two homers, two doubles and a triple -- but he was able to limit the damage throughout the game. Nonetheless, he's still sitting on easily career-worst marks in ERA (4.35) and WHIP (1.40), and Ventura's seen his strikeouts dip precipitously from prior seasons. His K/9 is just 6.65, nearly two full points lower than last year's 8.60.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Allows five runs for second straight start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (10-11) was torched for five earned runs on seven hits and four walks in Wednesday's 8-0 loss to Oakland. He struck out five.

The hard-throwing right-hander needed 100 pitches (58 strikes) as he labored from the first batter -- including a 39-pitch, three-run third inning -- until he was finally pulled with one out in the fifth after a hit by pitch, wild pitch and fly-out to centerfield. Ventura's consecutive five-run outing was Kansas City's third straight loss to Oakland, helping further spoil the Royals chances of reaching the postseason, as the club is now five games out of the American League wild card.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Goes seven innings in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Yordano allowed four earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings in a losing effort Friday. He struck out three and walked two.

Ventura has the tools to be an elite fantasy starter but just can't seem to develop the consistency or the fortune necessary get himself there. His ERA on the season is 4.26 while his WHIP hovers near 1.39, both above the league average for a similar starter. His next start comes against Oakland September 14.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Earns 10th win against Detroit
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (10-9) allowed one earned run on six hits and six walks in six innings Saturday against Detroit.

While Ventura can be a volatile and unpredictable fantasy starter, he has shown consistency over the past two months and has not allowed more than three earned runs in a start since July 3. Moreover, Kansas City has now won seven consecutive games in which he started.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Rough fifth inning derails Sunday start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks across just 4.1 innings in Sunday's start versus the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Ventura cruised through four innings having only allowed a solo home run to David Ortiz, but a walk, a pair of hits and a two-base error with one out in the fifth led to three Boston runs, chasing him from the game. Despite the rough outing in this difficult matchup, Ventura extended his streak of allowing three or fewer earned runs to 10 games, illustrating more consistency than he showed in the first half of the season. He will look to get back on track Saturday versus the Tigers.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Hooks Fish for ninth win on Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (9-9) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six Marlins in Tuesday's win.

Tuesday marked just the second time this season, and the first since June 17, in which Ventura tossed six-plus scoreless innings. The effort earned the right-hander a season-best fourth straight quality start, and lowered his ERA to 4.27, its best mark since April 30. Even more noteworthy is Ventura's improved control of late -- in his last three starts, the 25-year-old owns a 22:4 K:BB over 19.1 innings.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Turns in third straight quality outing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura allowed just one run on five hits over 5.1 innings Wednesday in Detroit, but received no decision. He struck out seven and walked two.

The Royals won by a 4-1 score, but weren't able to generate any offense until the eighth and ninth innings, so Ventura was actually on the hook for the loss when he left. Nonetheless, the erratic righty has actually been quite effective lately -- over his last eight outings, he's put up a 3.12 ERA and 44:18 K:BB in 52 innings. The control's been either there or not on a start-to-start basis, making him tough to rely on in DFS, but there's certainly a home for what he's been doing lately on a lot of fantasy rosters.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Allows one run in Sunday victory
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (7-9) allowed one run on five hits and four walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings to earn the win Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Ventura struggled with control, but didn't allow a Blue Jay to score until the seventh inning, and the offense gave him plenty of support, leading to his seventh victory of the campaign. He's now held opponents to three or fewer runs in each of his last six starts to lower his ERA to 4.64. In his fourth season with the Royals, the righty currently has both his highest ERA and WHIP of his young career. He'll make his next start Friday at the Twins.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Loses control in loss to Rays
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (6-9) pitched five innings, allowing two runs, six hits and four walks while striking out two Rays in a no-decision Tuesday.

Ventura struggled with his control all night, throwing just 57 of 103 pitches for strikes (55 percent). If not for getting a bit of help on the 11 swinging strikes he induced, that number would be even worse. The 25-year-old, who was averaging six-plus walks per nine through his first nine starts of the year, had seemingly gained command of his pitches through mid-summer. However, Ventura has now issued nine walks over his last three starts, two of which ended in losses. He'll look to get things under control in his next start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Suffers complete-game loss in Texas
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (6-9) pitched an eight-inning complete game against the Rangers on Thursday, giving up three runs on four hits, but he suffered the loss. He struck out six and walked one.

The hard-throwing righty gave up three solo homers and just one other hit, but that was just enough to lose with Cole Hamels dominating on the other side. This actually marks the first complete game of Ventura's career, and he certainly deserves plaudits for it, especially considering he failed to finish six innings in three of the five starts prior to Thursday's game. However, homers are up across the league, and Ventura hasn't been immune -- he's already set a new career worst with 17 allowed this year. That's no small part of the reason he's in the midst of his worst MLB campaign.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Starting Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura is starting Thursday's game against Texas, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

As expected, Ventura will not miss his scheduled start Thursday after taking an Adrian Beltre hit off his ribs in his last outing against Texas on Saturday. Ventura, who's 0-3 with a 4.98 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over four July starts, will face off against Cole Hamels to start a four-game series with Texas.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Fine after leaving game Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (ribs) said he isn't injured after taking an Adrian Beltre hit off the ribs, Christian Hardy of the Kansas City Star reports.

Ventura left the game in the fifth inning of Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Rangers. He and manager Ned Yost both said he will be "fine," but he should still be considered day-to-day until he makes his next start Thursday.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Suffers eighth loss of 2016 on Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Before leaving the game with a rib injury, Ventura (6-8) allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Saturday against the Rangers.

Ventura held the Royals scoreless through three innings before being touched up for three runs between the fourth and fifth innings, and he received very little run support, leading to his eighth loss of the season. He's now held opponents to three or fewer runs in each of his last three starts, and his ERA is at 4.99. Based on how his rib injury checks out, he'll make his next start Thursday at the Rangers.

Royals' Yordano Ventura: Seven strong innings in Sunday's no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ventura (6-7) threw seven innings Sunday, allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six, but came away with a no-decision in a 4-2 loss to the Tigers.

It's his second straight quality start and ninth of the season as Ventura once again teases turning his year around. He's still got a 4.97 ERA, though, so most fantasy players will want to see him string a couple more good outings together before considering him a reliable asset again. He'll try to keep his momentum going at home Saturday against the Rangers.
