Dallas Keuchel: Holding out for fair value
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Keuchel said Monday that he's content to remain a free agent while he pursues what he perceives to be a fair contract for his services, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports. "If you would've asked me on the first day of free agency, I would have said no way I'd be here on May 6," Keuchel said. "I told [agent Scott Boras] 'no' on numerous deals because it's about principle. It's about fair market value. And I wasn't getting that."

Keuchel didn't specify the exact terms he's seeking for his contract, but the lefty workhorse is presumably aiming for a multi-year deal after posting a 3.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 204.2 innings in 2018. With the season already more than a month old, it's unclear if any teams are eager to extend him more than a one-year offer, especially since Keuchel would likely need additional time after signing to get his arm conditioned for a starter's workload. Another obstacle in Keuchel potentially finding a home is that any team that signs him -- Houston excluded -- would have to extend draft-pick compensation to the Astros. With that in mind, there's a real possibility that Keuchel remains unsigned until at least June 2, when interested parties would no longer have to forfeit a draft pick.

Dallas Keuchel: Still pursuing long-term deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Keuchel continues to seek a multi-year contract in free agency or a prorated one-year deal that exceeds his $17.9 million qualifying offer, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Even with a Cy Young award on his resume in addition to three seasons with sub-3.00 ERAs, Keuchel could struggle to receive what he's seeking on the open market after his strikeout and groundball rates both took notable steps back in his age-30 campaign. Moreover, Keuchel's outlook for 2019 is further muddled by the fact that he didn't have a proper spring training. While the southpaw continues to throw 95-pitch simulated games every five days as he prepares for an eventual starting role, any team that signs him would surely want to have Keuchel pitch a rehab game or two in the minors before inserting him into the rotation. With that in mind, it's probably unwise to expect Keuchel to debut at any point in April, even if his negotiations with teams gain some steam within the next few days.

Dallas Keuchel: Ready to contribute immediately
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Keuchel is throwing 95-pitch simulated games every five days, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

It's remarkable that Keuchel still hasn't found a new home, but he should be ready to make an impact almost immediately upon signing with a team based on his current throwing regimen. "We are in discussion with a number of clubs," stated Keuchel's agent, Scott Boras.

Dallas Keuchel: Not close to signing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Keuchel isn't particularly close to signing with any team, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.

It's not completely surprising that Keuchel would take some time to find a suitor, as the lefty's valuation of himself as a recent Cy Young winner likely differs from those of front offices, who see him as a 31-year-old with a fastball that sits in the high 80s. Still, to see him still sitting at home in early March with no particularly strong rumors is unexpected. At this point, he may wind up signing a short-term deal with a contender that loses a starter to injury. There's a risk that his start to the regular season is delayed if he can't find a spot soon.

Dallas Keuchel: Becomes free agent
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Keuchel declined the Astros' one-year, $17.9 million qualifying offer and became a free agent Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Keuchel will hit the open market after posting a 3.74 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 153:58 K:BB across 34 starts (204.2 innings) for the Astros in 2018. The 30-year-old should draw plenty of interest given his sustained success over the past five seasons (67-45 with a 3.28 ERA across 950.1 innings).
