Pirates' Nik Turley: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley (elbow) was shipped to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, John Dreker of reports.

Turley was placed on the 60-day disabled list June 29 with a left elbow sprain, and he failed to pitch again in 2018 following the move. He'll report to Triple-A in a paper move for the time being but is expected to become a minor-league free agent during the offseason.

Pirates' Nik Turley: Moves from restricted list to disabled list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was activated from the restricted list Friday and placed on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow sprain, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.

Turley had been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He'll now remain off the roster until his elbow heals. When he does return to action, he won't be a compelling fantasy asset, as he's a 28-year-old with just 17.2 career major-league innings and an 11.21 ERA.

Pirates' Nik Turley: Slapped with 80-game suspension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was suspended without pay for 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, Adam Berry of reports.

Turley, who was recently claimed off waivers from the Twins, will begin serving his suspension at the start of the season. He spent most of the 2017 campaign with Triple-A Rochester, posting an impressive 2.66 ERA and 79:22 K:BB across 67.2 innings of work (18 total appearances, 10 starts). His success didn't carry over to the majors, however, as he posted an unsightly 11.21 ERA and 2.15 WHIP across 17.2 big-league frames. The 28-year-old will likely serve as organizational bullpen depth when he returns from his suspension in the second half of 2018.

Pirates' Nik Turley: Claimed by Pirates
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Monday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Turley spent most of the 2017 season at Triple-A Rochester as a member of the Twins organization. Over 18 games, 10 of which were starts, he put together a 2.66 ERA and impressive 28.9 percent K-rate. However, his success didn't translate to the majors. Across 10 games (17.2 innings) with the big club he was knocked for an 11.21 ERA and 2.15 WHIP.

Twins' Nik Turley: Recalled from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

The 27-year-old southpaw has been rocked (12.51 ERA) in 13.2 innings in the big leagues this year, including three starts, but he figures to occupy a mop-up role out of the bullpen in September. He has a 2.66 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 67.2 innings at Triple-A -- splitting time between starting and relieving.

Twins' Nik Turley: Sent back to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, reports.

The Twins had designated Turley as their 26th man for Monday's doubleheader with the White Sox, so it was fully expected that he'd report back to Rochester at the conclusion of the twin bill. Turley ended up pitching in long relief in the first game of the doubleheader, covering 3.2 innings and giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out three batters.

Twins' Nik Turley: Will serve as 26th man Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Twins optioned Turley to Triple-A Rochester, but subsequently recalled him to serve as the 26th man for Monday's doubleheader with the White Sox.

In order to facilitate the addition of Game 1 starter Tim Melville to the active roster, Turley was optioned in what amounted to a procedural move. Though Turley will stick around with the big club for now, he'll likely be bound for Rochester once the doubleheader is completed, as either Melville or Dillon Gee -- the Game 2 starter Monday -- will assume the long-relief role that had previously fallen to Turley.

Twins' Nik Turley: Recalled from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.

Turley was summoned back to the big club to offer a fresh bullpen arm for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians after the Twins' bullpen pitched five innings in Game 1. With Dillon Gee unavailable after tossing 2.2 innings during the first game, Turley should offer length out of the bullpen. He has struggled during his brief time in the majors this season, posting a 16.39 ERA and 2.89 WHIP through 9.1 innings.

Twins' Nik Turley: Optioned to minors after tough start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports.

He'll head back to the minors after another disastrous outing Thursday in which he failed to get out of the first inning while allowing five earned runs to the White Sox. Minnesota will fill his roster spot with a corresponding move Friday.

Twins' Nik Turley: Exits in first frame
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits and recorded just two outs during Thursday's loss to the White Sox.

The 27-year-old southpaw was overmatched Thursday, and Turley has now allowed 17 runs through just 9.1 innings over his three outings in the majors. The game was delayed because of weather, and it could have interrupted his rhythm leading into the start, but it's still likely that Turley needs more seasoning in the minors. If he sticks in the rotation for another turn, he lines up to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park next.

Twins' Nik Turley: Tabbed for Thursday's start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley will make another big-league start Thursday against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Twins' starting pitching plans were up in the air with Hector Santiago's (shoulder) return timeline still up in the air, but with his return still not imminent, Turley will log at least one more start in the majors. He was shelled for eight runs across 4.2 innings in his previous start, although his propensity for striking batters out in the minors gives him some semblance of appeal in deep formats as he heads into his upcoming clash with Jose Quintana and the South Siders.

Twins' Nik Turley: Gets rocked again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley allowed eight runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings Friday against the Twins. He struck out three and walked four.

Coming off his major-league debut, Turley did not do much to impress, as he was on the hook for all of the runs Cleveland scored Friday night. Depending on the status of Hector Santiago (shoulder), it's possible Turley has taken his final turn in the rotation for the time being.

Twins' Nik Turley: Scheduled for one more MLB start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley will start Friday's game against the Indians, Brandon Warne of reports.

Turley was shelled in his last start in the big leagues, but with Hector Santiago (shoulder) not expected to be ready by the weekend, the Twins will turn to the 27-year-old for one more start. He'll face off with Indians righty Carlos Carrasco in what could be his last big-league start for some time.

Twins' Nik Turley: Gives up eight hits in debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley gave up four runs on eight hits over four innings but got a no-decision in his major-league debut in Sunday's loss at San Francisco.

Turley did strike out four batters, so it wasn't all bad. He could get another turn in the rotation with the fifth starter role in flux due to shoulder injuries to Hector Santiago and Phil Hughes.

Twins' Nik Turley: Promoted ahead of MLB debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Twins purchased Turley's contract from Triple-A Rochester ahead of the left-hander's scheduled start Sunday against the Giants, Brandon Warne of reports.

At 27 years old, Turley shouldn't be viewed as a premium prospect, but it's hard to ignore the massive strikeout totals he racked up across stops at Double-A Chattanooga and Rochester this season. Turley whiffed 15 batters in his final turn with Rochester on Tuesday to give him 84 strikeouts over 52.2 innings in the minors on the season. He could make for an attractive steaming option in his MLB debut against a Giants offense that ranks last in baseball with a .283 wOBA.

Twins' Nik Turley: Set to start Sunday at San Francisco
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester and start Sunday at San Francisco, Rhett Bollinger of reports.

The 27-year-old minor league journeyman signed with the Twins in the offseason and has had a career revival with a 2.05 ERA and 84:15 K:BB between Double-A and Triple-A (3.49 ERA and 12.5 K/9 at Triple-A). He had 15 strikeouts in his last Triple-A start and had a 14-strikeout game earlier in the season. He could stick as Minnesota's fifth starter if he can find anything close to similar success in the majors.

Twins' Nik Turley: Strikes out 15 in Triple-A start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley struck out a career-high 15 batters over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old left-hander signed a minor-league contract with the Twins to little fanfare this offseason, but he's starting to attract notice through his gaudy strikeout totals over 12 appearances. He previously whiffed 14 batters in an April 25 start at Double-A Chattanooga and has compiled 84 strikeouts to go with a 2.05 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across two levels this season. If Turley can sustain his success with Rochester over his next handful of starts, it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a rotation look with the big club, which has struggled to find a reliable fifth starter this season.

Twins' Nik Turley: Inks minor league deal with Twins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley signed a minor league contract with the Twins, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

Turley was released by the Red Sox in mid-July after some struggles in the minors, but he pitched masterfully in an independent league, sporting a 2.02 ERA and a 12.1 K/9 in 49 innings pitched. The Twins decided to take a chance on the left-hander, although he'll likely be limited to the upper levels of the minor leagues until he shores up his control issues.

White Sox's Nik Turley: Pitches only twice in spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley had a spring ERA of 4.50 and WHIP of 2.00 while only pitching in two of the White Sox exhibition games.

Turley didn't receive much of a chance to show himself during the White Sox spring training after signing a minor league contract with the club in January. He doesn't appear to be one of the top pitching prospects for Chicago, but he's starting the season with Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox's Nik Turley: Signs with White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Turley signed a minor league dealsigned a minor league deal with the White Sox on Tuesday.

Turley spent last season in the Giants' organization, working to a 4.56 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 102.2 innings with their Triple-A affiliate. The 26-year-old has yet to appear in the majors in his career, but he figures to serve as organizational depth either as a starter or out of the bullpen.
