Thompson agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels earlier this month, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
Thompson will join the Halos for spring training after an underwhelming 2019. He opened the past season with the Lotte Giants of the KBO League before being cut by the South Korean club and latching on with the Tigers on a minor-league deal. Thompson was at least able to end his campaign on a high note with an eight-inning, 13-strikeout performance for Double-A Erie on Aug. 30, so the Angels will presumably give him a look this spring and determine if he's a viable rotation option for their Pacific Coast or Southern League affiliates.
Thompson signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Thursday and was assigned to High-A Lakeland.
After transitioning to a full-time relief role last spring, Thompson failed to find much success at the Triple-A Toledo or major-league level across stints in the Phillies and Brewers organizations. Upon hitting free agency after the 2018 season, Thompson opted to head to the Korea Baseball Organization, where he posted a 4.74 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 62.2 innings before being released in June. He'll now return stateside for work, joining the organization that originally selected him in the second round of the 2012 first-year player draft.
Thompson agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization on Thursday, Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reports.
Thompson's transition to a full-time relief role last season didn't go as well as hoped, as he put up a 4.96 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over nine appearances for the Phillies before being designated for assignment in August. He latched on with the Brewers soon after but never appeared at the big-league level before he was dropped from their 40-man roster. Since Thompson wasn't likely to garner anything more than a minor-league deal had he remained stateside, he'll opt for greater financial security by going overseas in 2019. Still just 24 years old, Thompson has plenty of time left to resurface in the big leagues down the road.
Thompson was outrighted to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.
Thompson will report back to the SkySox after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 24-year-old owns a combined 4.30 ERA and 55:29 K:BB across 52.1 innings with Colorado Springs and Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Friday.
The move frees up a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Gio Gonzalez, who was acquired from the Nationals via trade Friday. Thompson has appeared solely for Triple-A Colorado Springs since joining the Brewers, posting a shiny 1.69 ERA across 5.1 innings before being DFA'd. He'll likely report back to the SkySox if he passes through waivers untouched.
Thompson was traded from the Phillies to the Brewers on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.
Thompson was shipped to the Brewers after being designated for assignment last week. The 24-year-old compiled a 4.96 ERA across 16.1 innings of relief with the Phillies this season while posting a 4.60 ERA across 47 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He'll report to Triple-A Colorado Springs for now.
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
Thompson was cast off the 40-man roster in order to make room for the recently acquired Justin Bour, who was traded to Philadelphia from Miami for McKenzie Mills on Friday. Across nine games with the Phillies this year, Thompson posted a 4.96 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 16.1 innings of relief. He was currently on Triple-A Lehigh Valley's roster at the time of this transaction.
The Phillies optioned Thompson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Thompson lost his spot on the active roster after the Phillies acquired Aaron Loup from the Blue Jays and activated Adam Morgan from the paternity list. After working almost exclusively as a starter for the Phillies in 2017, Thompson has transitioned to a bullpen role this season but hasn't noticed a dramatic improvement in his results. Over nine appearances at the big-league level this season, Thompson has yielded nine earned runs on 14 hits and 11 walks over 16.1 innings.
Thompson was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Thompson will return to the Phillies' bullpen for Wednesday's series finale in order to provide a fresh arm after the club played 16 innings Tuesday. Across six appearances this year, he's logged a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He will likely be utilized as a middle-relief man during his time with the team.
The Phillies optioned Thompson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
Thompson was called up from Lehigh Valley to serve as the Phillies' 26th man for Monday's doubleheader with the Mets, but went unused in both contests. Over six appearances at the big-league level this season, Thompson has posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 13 innings.
Thompson was brought back to the Phillies to be their 26th man for Monday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Thompson has bounced between Philadelphia and Triple-A Lehigh Valley throughout the year, recording a 5.54 ERA in 13 major-league innings. He'll likely spend just one day with the team this time around and will pitch in a low-leverage role if he appears at all.
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.
Thompson continues to live the life of the reliever with options, being sent down for the fifth time this season. He made just one appearance this time around with the Phillies, tossing three key scoreless innings in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Nationals. Expect him to return periodically throughout the season in a low-leverage role.
Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.
Thompson will be called upon to provide bullpen help after the team's relievers threw a combined 14.1 innings over the past two games. His last stint in the majors didn't go so hot, as Thompson allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits across 10 innings (five appearances).
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
The Phillies will hold off until Friday to make a corresponding roster move ahead of their series opener against the Nationals. Thompson picked up a win and a save over his brief, two-outing stint with the Phillies but he also gave up a home run in his 1.1 innings.
Thompson needed just one pitch to record one out and record the save in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Brewers.
It was Thompson's second save of the season and his first since early April. Hector Neris was rocked for four runs in the ninth before Thompson was able to save the day. Thompson owns an ugly 7.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in nine innings this season. Even with Neris struggling, Thompson likely won't gain a relevant spot in the Phillies' committee, especially with the way Seranthony Dominguez is throwing.
Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
Thompson has an ugly 7.27 ERA in 8.2 innings at the big-league level this season, though his 2.40 FIP indicates that there's been a lot of bad luck in that small sample. He's been uninspiring in 31.1 Triple-A innings, however, posting a 5.17 ERA. He and Yacksiel Rios will fill low-leverage roles in the Phillies' bullpen, with Mark Leiter being optioned and Luis Garcia (wrist) hitting the disabled list.
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Sunday's game against the Mets.
He was not used out of the bullpen after being recalled earlier in the week, and apparently the Phillies no longer need his services. Thompson's outlook is not promising, as he has been unsuccessful as a starter at Triple-A and as a big-league reliever. His control has been particularly poor at both stops this season (13 walks in 22.2 innings).
Thompson was promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Thompson will take the place of Zac Curtis on the active roster as the Phillies look to replenish their bullpen ahead of Thursday's series finale against San Francisco. Over three long-relief appearances with the big-league club this season, Thompson has logged a 7.27 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with a 9:4 K:BB in 8.2 innings.
Thompson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.
Thompson had a poor showing during Sunday's game against the Braves. Over 3.2 innings, he gave up three runs on three hits and three walks. The righty has performed similarly at Lehigh Valley this season, where he owns a 10.80 ERA and 2.40 WHIP after three starts.
Thompson will be used as a reliever during his time in the majors, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.
There were some rumblings that Thompson could start Tuesday in Miami, but the Phillies squashed those notions. He instead seems to be destined for long relief, though some spot starts down the line aren't out of the question. No word has come forth as to who will fill in to start Tuesday's tilt.
