White Sox's D.J. Peterson: Joins White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Peterson opted to return to Chicago -- where he spent time in 2017 -- after being granted his release from Cincinnati earlier in the offseason. The former first-round pick spent all of the 2018 campaign in the minors, slashing .277/.322/.462 with 16 homers in 113 games for Triple-A Louisville. Peterson has yet to reach the majors and will likely be viewed as organizational outfield depth for the White Sox.

D.J. Peterson: Cut loose by Reds
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was released by the Reds on Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Peterson reportedly asked for his release so he could pursue other opportunities. The 26-year-old hit .277/.322/.462 with 16 homers in 113 games for Triple-A Louisville. A first-round pick in 2013, Peterson has yet to reach the majors.

Reds' D.J. Peterson: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Peterson, who was claimed off waivers from the White Sox over the weekend, will report to Louisville after the Reds were able to pass him through waivers untouched. The 25-year-old compiled a middling .252/.314/.404 line with 16 homers in 128 Triple-A games between Tacoma and Charlotte this season. Peterson still hasn't reached the majors, and he's lost a lot of his appeal since notching 31 homers across two levels in 2014.

Reds' D.J. Peterson: Claimed by Reds
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Sunday.

Peterson, who was recently designated for assignment by the White Sox, will link up with the Reds for the remainder of the 2017 campaign. The 25-year-old hit just .198 in his 97 plate appearances with Triple-A Charlotte of the White Sox organization. To make room on the 40-man roster, Drew Storen (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

White Sox's D.J. Peterson: Claimed by White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on Sunday.

Much of the 25-year-old's sheen as a prospect has worn off since his 31-homer campaign across two levels in 2014, with his power production having stagnated in the upper minors the last three seasons. However, Peterson has at least been able to lower his strikeout rate to a career-best level (17.8 percent) at Triple-A Tacoma this season and does have a first-round pedigree, which may have influenced the White Sox's decision to buy low on him and add him to the 40-man roster. He'll likely report to Triple-A Charlotte with his new organization as the rebuilding White Sox look to see if there's more than meets the eye here.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Sunday.

Peterson rocketed up prospect lists and was regarded as one of the top players in the Mariners' farm system after smacking 31 home runs between the High-A and Double-A levels in 2014, but his development stagnated in the upper minors after he was never able to replicate that power production the past three seasons. As a 25-year-old corner infielder with a middling .264/.323/.414 slash line across 421 plate appearances at Triple-A Tacoma, Peterson has a decent chance at passing through waivers unclaimed and remaining in the organization.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Limited with leg issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson will be limited for a few days with a leg issue, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.

It's still early in camp so this shouldn't affect Peterson's availability for the start of the season. He will open the year at Triple-A Tacoma, but could receive a promotion this summer to provide right-handed power off the bench.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Likely to start at Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson is expected to begin the season as the starting first baseman at Triple-A Tacoma, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Peterson began the season at the Double-A level last season, but he ultimately got his first extended look at Triple-A and hit .253 with eight home runs in 46 games there. The 24-year-old was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason so he may get a chance in the majors at some point in 2017, but at this point it looks like he'll get the chance for regular at-bats in the minors to start out the year.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Added to 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was added to the Mariners' 40-man roster on Friday.

Peterson got off to a hot start with Triple-A Tacoma but cooled down enough that he finished with a .253/.307/.438 line in 192 plate appearances. He should figure into the Mariners depth at the corner infield positions heading into 2017.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Boasts .901 OPS at Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson, 24, is slashing .305/.352/.549 with five homers and a 24:5 K:BB in 82 at-bats since being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma.

Peterson struggled during a brief taste of Triple-A back in 2015, but he appears to be much improved at the plate this time around. Given Adam Lind's struggles in the big leagues this year (.231/.264/.450), Peterson could serve as an internal upgrade, especially if the Mariners are successful in unloading Lind before the trade deadline. However, the acquisition of 1B/DH prospect Dan Vogelbach from the Cubs earlier this week also complicates matters, as Vogelbach is a better prospect than Peterson and has more experience at Triple-A, so he could be the one to receive a promotion in the coming weeks.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Promoted to Triple-A Tacoma
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, seattlepi.com reports.

The 12th overall pick in the 2013 draft, Peterson bounced back strong from a disappointing 2015 campaign, posting a .271/.340/.466 slash line in 73 games for Double-A Jackson. He played four games with Triple-A Tacoma last season but has otherwise spent most of his minor league career at High-A and Double-A. Though the Mariners likely want to keep him in Triple-A for an extended period, Peterson might still emerge as a candidate for a September call-up.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Goes 3-for-4 with a homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Double-A Jackson's 7-0 victory over Chattanooga on Monday.

Peterson is now 8-for-16 in his last four games, accruing three runs and four RBI during that time. While he's been hitting the ball well lately, he still holds a .242 season average. He'll need to hit at a more efficient clip than that if he hopes to be rewarded with a lengthy stint at Triple-A.

Mariners' D.J. Peterson: Sent back to Double-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson will head back to Double-A to start the 2016 season, Baseball America's J.J. Cooper reports.

Up and down the Mariners farm system, the new regime is trying to make up for the overly aggressive promotional tactics of the prior front office, and Peterson is one of the primary examples of this. He was promoted to Triple-A last year despite hitting just .223/.290/.346 at Double-A, and the new regime is stressing the importance of earning promotions. Peterson's prospect stock has plummeted, but there's reason to be hopeful that under this new organizational approach, he can work more at his own speed to make the necessary improvements to his game.
