Mets' Robel Garcia: Claimed by Mets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Mets on Monday.

Garcia held his own in his 31-game debut for the Cubs in 2019, hitting a lopsided but respectable .208/.275/.500. A 43.8 percent strikeout rate didn't bode particularly well for the future, however, and he failed to make a single plate appearances for either the Cubs or the Reds this season. Heading into his age-28 season, he's likely not a major part of the Mets' plans going forward.

Reds' Robel Garcia: Returns to alternate site
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Reds optioned Garcia to their alternate training site following Wednesday's doubleheader with the Royals.

Garcia joined the Reds as the 29th man for the twin bill and didn't see any use off the bench in either contest. He'll head back to the alternate site and see regular at-bats in simulated games while he awaits another callup to the big club.

Reds' Robel Garcia: Called up for doubleheader
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was called up by the Reds on Wednesday to serve as the 29th man for the doubleheader against the Royals.

Garcia was claimed off waivers from the Cubs at the start of the regular season. He played both outfielder corners as well as second base in his major-league debut last year. His lopsided .208/.275/.500 slash line in 80 plate appearances was good for a respectable enough 93 wRC+, though his 43.8 percent strikeout rate is a concerning number.

Reds' Robel Garcia: Claimed by Reds
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Reds, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

He will report to the Reds' alternate training site. With Mike Moustakas and Matt Davidson landing on the COVID-19 injured list, the Reds have some free 40-man roster spots in the short term, which likely motivated them to claim Garcia. He has some experience at shortstop and second base, which are now the Reds' two shallowest positions.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Booted from 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Cubs designated Garcia for assignment Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

His removal from the 40-man roster opened up a spot on the roster for Josh Phegley, who will give the Cubs a third catcher on the 30-man Opening Day roster. Garcia bashed 32 home runs between the Cubs, Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee in 2019, but his contact woes hindered his overall effectiveness at the big-league level. He struck out in 35 of his 80 plate appearances (43.8 percent) and batted just .208.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Headed to South Bend for camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is one of 11 Cubs players who will head to South Bend for summer camp.

The 11-player group will likely focus on development while the 39 players training at Wrigley Field are more likely to see meaningful MLB action. However, Garcia played in 31 games for the Cubs last year and is on the 40-man roster, so he could be one of the first players to get the call from South Bend. The 27-year-old popped five home runs in those 31 games, but he also batted just .208 and struck out 43.8 percent of the time; therefore, he has plenty of room for improvement if he wants to stick as a regular in the majors.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Optioned to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday.

Garcia showed flashes in the majors last season, hitting five homers in 80 plate appearances, but he also struck out 43.8 percent of the time and finished with a 93 wRC+, the product of a .208/.275/.500 slash line. With the ability to play second base, third base and both outfielder corners, Garcia will remain a useful depth option for the Cubs this season should injuries strike the big-league roster.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Likely to start at Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is battling for a reserve spot in spring training but is likely to begin the year with Triple-A Iowa, Jordan Bastian of reports.

Garcia showed a few flashes in 2019, but he has to compete with the likes of Nico Hoerner and the newly-added Jason Kipnis for playing time at the moment. Chicago could elect to put the 26-year-old at Triple-A to begin the year and use him as a quick call-up if a need arises.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Big impact as pinch hitter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a walk in Friday's 8-2 win over the Cardinals.

Garcia hit for pitcher Alec Mills in the sixth inning, drawing a walk. He stayed in the game at second base and contributed the biggest hit in the Cubs' seven-run rally in the seventh, a three-run blast off Cardinals reliever Ryan Helsley. The homer was his first hit in 11 at-bats since earning a September callup. Garcia is only hitting .200/.269/.500 with five homers and 11 RBI in 70 at-bats this season. The 26-year-old did produce 21 homers and a .281 average with Triple-A Iowa in 76 games this year, however.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Recalled for stretch run
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Iowa by the Cubs on Sunday.

Garcia was sent down at the end of July despite posting a .779 OPS during his stint in the majors, but his 41.3 percent strikeout rate led to his demotion. The 25-year-old figures to work in a reserve utility role for the Cubs.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Sent to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Iowa following Wednesday's win over the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of reports.

Garcia started seven of the last nine games at the keystone for the Cubs, but he'll return to Iowa to make room for trade acquisition Nicholas Castellanos. Garcia had a solid .779 OPS during his debut stint in the majors, but his 41.3 percent strikeout rate indicates that figure was likely unsustainable.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Sitting Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Garcia has started the past three games, going 1-for-15 with eight strikeouts. David Bote is starting at the keystone in this one.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Hitting leadoff
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is starting at second base and hitting leadoff against the Brewers on Saturday.

Garcia has primarily hit fifth or lower this season, but he'll get his first start atop the order after compiling a .272/.313/.682 slash line through his first 16 games with the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber was dropped to eighth in the order as a result.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Out of Friday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is not in the lineup for Friday's game at Milwaukee.

Garcia started the last four games at the keystone with Addison Russell demoted to Triple-A, but he'll take a seat for Friday's series opener. David Bote receives the starting nod at second base in the series opener.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Splashes down in McCovey Cove
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in the Cubs' 5-4 loss to the Giants.

Garcia kicked off the scoring for both sides with a 454-blast in the second inning that reached McCovey Cove. The splash hit provides a strong testimonial for Garcia's credentials as a power hitter, which have only been strengthened since he made the jump from Triple-A Iowa to the majors earlier this month. Garcia has already compiled eight extra-base hits through his first 13 games, helping his case for earning playing time in the infield over the likes of Addison Russell, David Bote and Daniel Descalso.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Sitting Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.

Garcia and Addison Russell had alternated starts at second base for the last six games, but Garcia now finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row. Through 10 big-league contests, he owns an excellent .333/.370/.875 slash line, though he's also striking out 40.7 percent of the time.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Back on bench
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Garcia will give way to Addison Russell for Wednesday's series finale as the two continue to alternate starts at second base. Through his first nine big-league games, the 26-year-old Garcia is slashing .348/.385/.913 with six extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple and three home runs).

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Pops third homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Reds.

The 26-year-old continues to be one of the most surprising stories of the season. Out of affiliated ball for six years before signing a minor-league deal with the Cubs in the offseason, Garcia has now slashed .348/.385/.913 through his first nine major-league games with three homers and six RBI. His 2:11 BB:K is a strong sign he'll fall back to earth eventually, but at the very least he's put himself in the team's future plans as another versatile defender with a solid bat manager Joe Maddon can deploy -- Garcia has only played second base so far for the Cubs, but he saw time at four other positions between Double-A and Triple-A before his promotion.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Not in lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is not starting Monday against the Reds.

Garcia has gone 6-for-18 with five extra-base hits to start his big-league career. He and Addison Russell have alternated starts at second base for the first four games of the second half.

Cubs' Robel Garcia: Re-enters lineup Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Garcia is starting at second base and batting seventh in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Garcia was on the bench for Saturday's 10-run outburst, though he did appear as a pinch hitter. The 26-year-old has seemingly taken over as the Cubs' No. 1 second baseman with his .286/.353/.857 slash line through his first six games in the majors, though the team has several veteran options to turn to at the keystone if Garcia stumbles.
