This comes after Reininger was tagged for three runs on four hits -- two homers -- and a walk while striking out one across 1.2 innings of relief Thursday against the Angels. The righty now owns a 14.40 ERA, 2.80 WHIP and 3:1 K:BB in five innings of big-league work this season. Reininger was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Reininger was called up earlier Tuesday to serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader. The 26-year-old faced only one batter during his day in the majors, but that batter was Mookie Betts, and Reininger retired him on two pitches with the tying run on base to finish the eighth inning.

The Tigers optioned Reininger to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.
Reininger has covered 31 innings at the big-league level the past two seasons, accruing a 7.55 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. The right-hander will likely be limited to lower-leverage work out of the bullpen whenever he's up with the big club in 2019.
Reininger was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
Reininger shuttled between the majors and minors all season, but he'll be up for good now that rosters expanded for the month of September. He'll likely work in low-leverage situations for the remainder of the season.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Reininger was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following the Tigers' 9-2 loss to the Indians on Sunday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Reininger was roughed up while working the eighth inning of the blowout loss, surrendering three runs on four hits. His demotion could pave the way for the Tigers to add another catcher to the active roster with James McCann (illness) still recovering from a nasty bout of the flu, according to Fenech.
Reininger was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The right-hander will return to fortify a bullpen that was forced to cover five innings in relief of Ryan Carpenter (oblique) on Thursday.
