Chris Ellis: Let go by Cardinals
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was released by the Cardinals on Monday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Ellis had a tumultuous offseason before eventually winding up back with the Cardinals, but he'll be left searching for another club once again. The 27-year-old was lackluster with Triple-A Memphis in 2019, logging a 7.18 ERA and 1.84 WHIP, although he managed to make his major-league debut with Kansas City, where he pitched one scoreless inning.

Cardinals' Chris Ellis: Returned to St. Louis
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis cleared waivers and was returned to the Cardinals.

He was a Rule 5 draft pick back in December, and as such, he needed to be offered back to his original team before being sent to the minors for another organization. Ellis should serve as organizational pitching depth for the Cardinals, but they left him unprotected from that draft for a reason.

Royals' Chris Ellis: Loses roster spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Royals designated Ellis for assignment Wednesday.

Ellis was a Rule 5 selection this winter, so even if he goes unclaimed off waivers, the Royals would have to offer him back to his previous organization (St. Louis) as a non-roster player. The right-hander made one appearance out of the bullpen during his time with Kansas City, tossing a scoreless inning.

Royals' Chris Ellis: Traded to Kansas City
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Rangers traded Ellis to the Royals on Thursday immediately following the Rule 5 draft.

Ellis was picked seventh in the draft by the Rangers before getting flipped to Kansas City, likely in exchange for cash considerations. The 26-year-old spent a majority of the 2018 campaign at the Triple-A level within the Cardinals' organization, logging a 3.76 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with a 7.7 K/9. Ellis has the ability to serve as a starting pitcher or multi-inning reliever for the Royals moving forward.

Rangers' Chris Ellis: Heads to Texas
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was selected by the Rangers with the seventh pick in the Rule 5 draft.

Texas marks Ellis' fourth organization -- he was most recently shipped from Atlanta to St. Louis in a 2016 trade that sent Jaime Garcia to Atlanta. While most of his minor-league experience has been as a starting pitcher, Ellis' stuff has ticked up out of the bullpen, and he is capable of logging more than one inning at a time. The 26-year-old righty posted a 3.76 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 68 strikeouts in 79 innings at Triple-A. Look for him to be used as a long reliever and spot starter.

Cardinals' Chris Ellis: Sent to Cardinals in Jaime Garcia deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was traded to the Cardinals on Thursday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Ellis split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season in the Braves organization, although his numbers with Mississippi were far superior to those he posted with Gwinnett. He holds a nice history of missing bats (274 strikeouts since 2014) which could bode well for him as he moves into his age-24 season, although his lack of command keep his ceiling at that of a back-end starter.

Braves' Chris Ellis: Has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was called up to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, Mississippi Braves' Radio Voice Kyle Tait reports.

Ellis had been pitching tremendously with Double-A Mississippi this season, going 8-2 with a 2.75 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 78.2 innings of work. He will get a chance to compete at the next level for Gwinnett as Lucas Sims was returned to Mississippi. If Ellis continues to shine with Gwinnett, he could earn himself a spot with the Braves sometime later on this summer.

Braves' Chris Ellis: Traded to Braves on Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was traded to the Braves on Thursday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Ellis was one of the top pitching prospects in the Angels' organization, and will head to Atlanta with fellow pitching prospect Sean Newcomb and shortstop Erick Aybar. The 23-year-old put up decent numbers as a starter between High-A and Double-A in the Angels' organization, posting a 3.92 ERA and 1.54 WHIP with a 7-4 record with Double-A Arkansas. He should maintain his upper-prospect status with the rebuilding Braves.
