Pirates' Jason Martin: Gets spot on taxi squad
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Pirates announced Sunday that Martin will be included as one of 19 players on the team's taxi squad for the 2020 season, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Martin is one of the few members of the taxi squad with prior MLB experience, as he appeared in 20 games for the big club in 2019 and slashed .250/.325/.306 across 40 plate appearances. While he won't join the big club in Pittsburgh when workouts resume this week and will instead report to the team's alternative training site in Altoona, Martin should rank near the top of the list for a promotion to the Pirates if the team requires an extra body in the outfield at any point.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Heads to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

Martin received 40 plate appearances in his big-league debut last season but didn't do much with them, hitting .250/.325/.306. His .242/.297/.383 slash line in 160 career games at the Triple-A level isn't exactly inspiring, either.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Contributes offensively Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and his first stolen base of the spring Monday.

He's in a battle with Guillermo Heredia for the team's backup outfield spot. It's likely he starts 2020 in the minors as he's coming off shoulder surgery in October. Either way, he put together a strong showing Monday.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Passes last check point
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (shoulder) practiced sliding drills Tuesday -- both feet-first and head-first, clearing the final hurdle of rehabilitation following offseason surgery.

Team medical director Todd Tomczyk called the step "monumental." Martin debuted with Pittsburgh in 2019, hitting .250 in 36 at-bats with a pair of stolen bases. He also batted .259/.312/.419 with eight homers and nine steals in 406 Triple-A plate appearances. While Martin may not crack the Opening Day roster, he's not far off. The 24-year-old averaged 18 homers and 16 steals in three minor-league seasons from 2016 to 2018 and likely figures into the outfield mix at some point this season.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Good to go for spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (shoulder) reported to camp this week healthy and without any restrictions following September surgery, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Martin was shut down in the final month of the 2019 season with a labral tear in his left shoulder, but after nearly half a year to recover from surgery, he's now back to full strength. The 24-year-old will be looking to win a reserve role in the Pittsburgh outfield this spring, but he'll most likely wind up at Triple-A Indianapolis to begin the campaign.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Rehab progressing well
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (shoulder) is progressing well in his rehab from surgery in October, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Martin had offseason surgery to repair a left shoulder labral tear in October, but his rehab is going "extremely well," according to the team. He could face some limitations at the beginning of spring training, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him ready to go for the beginning of the season barring any setbacks.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Undergoes shoulder surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin underwent surgery to repair a left shoulder labral tear in September, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Martin was ruled out for the remainder of the 2019 season after suffering a dislocated left shoulder, and it's since been revealed that he went under the knife. His timetable for a return is 4-to-6 months, meaning he could be ready for the beginning of spring training if all goes well.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Lands on 60-day injured list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list Sunday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

The move doesn't affect Martin's recovery time; he's already been ruled out for the season with a dislocated left shoulder. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for James Marvel, whose contract was purchased ahead of his big-league debut in a corresponding move.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Done for season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin will miss the rest of the season with the shoulder injury he suffered Tuesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Martin rejoined the Pirates on Tuesday after spending most of the previous four months in the minors, but his first season in the big leagues will come to an early end because of his injury. Martin is not expected to need surgery and will likely be healthy again at some point in October, so he should be good to go when spring training begins.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Suffers shoulder injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin exited Tuesday's game against the Marlins with a left shoulder injury, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Martin sustained the injury during the eighth inning as he collided with pitcher Jarlin Garcia when scoring on a wild pitch. The 23-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier Tuesday and earned a walk in his pinch-hit appearance.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Returns to majors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

With a 4-0 win over Louisville on Monday, Indianapolis' season came to a close, freeing up a handful of players to join the major-league team. Martin will be among those players after batting .259/.312/.419 with eight homers and nine steals in 101 games at Triple-A this season. He's unlikely to see more than sporadic at-bats while serving in a depth role.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Sent to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Martin spent just four days with the Pirates, making two appearances off the bench and going 1-for-1 with a run scored during that stretch. He was sent to the minors to free up a roster spot for Wednesday's starter, Dario Agrazal.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Recalled by Pirates
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Martin got into 17 games for the Pirates earlier in the season, hitting an unimpressive .229/.289/.286. He'll fill a bench role in a crowded Pirates outfield. Gregory Polanco (shoulder) landed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Sent to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Martin had been struggling at the dish over his past five contests (0-for-12), and with Startling Marte returning from the injured list Tuesday, he was the obvious choice to go down to the minor leagues.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Cooling off at plate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin went 0-for-3 with a strikeout against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

He has one hit in his last 17 at-bats and will likely be sent back to Triple-A as the team's outfield health improves. Starling Marte (abdomen) could return as soon as Monday while Lonnie Chisenhall (hand) and Corey Dickerson (shoulder) aren't far away. Martin has demonstrated good speed and has played both left field and center, but he's had trouble going back for flyballs hit over his head. The 23-year-old has totaled only 76 games above the Double-A level. He's slashed .229/.289/.286 with two stolen bases in 38 plate appearances for Pittsburgh.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Sitting against lefty
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Martin will once again head to the bench against a left-handed starter as Madison Bumgarner takes the mound for the Giants. J.B. Shuck will start in left field and bat seventh in his absence.

Pirates' Jason Martin: On bench versus lefty
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Martin appears to have played his way into a large-side platoon role in the corner outfield, but he's ran into some bad luck with the opposing pitching schedule lately. With the Pirates facing a lefty starter (Matthew Boyd) for the fourth time in seven games, Martin will head to bench while Pablo Reyes and J.B. Shuck man left and right field, respectively.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Contributes again Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin went 1-for-4 with an eighth-inning RBI double against the Nationals on Sunday.

The 23-year-old is batting .353 in 17 at-bats. He's exceeded expectations for a player who was supposed to start 2019 at Triple-A Indianapolis but was brought to Pittsburgh due to injuries in the outfield. He's also swiped two bags. A 1:5 BB:K might foretell struggles with more reps at the big-league level, but he'll likely get another week or so before the team activates Gregory Polanco (shoulder) and sends Martin to Triple-A.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Checks out of lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Martin was promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis after Corey Dickerson (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday and had started the last two games in left field. going a combined 3-for-6 with a double and stolen base. With southpaw Jon Lester on the bump for the Cubs, the lefty-hitting Martin will move to the bench, but he looks to have at least a temporary hold on the larger side of a platoon in left field. Pablo Reyes will replace Martin in the lineup Monday.

Pirates' Jason Martin: Does well in debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin went 1-for-2 with a walk and stolen base in his major-league debut Saturday.

The 23-year-old, who led off and played left field for the injury-riddled Pirates, was acquired as part of the haul for Gerrit Cole. Martin struggled in Triple-A last season, slashing .211/.270/.319, but he impressed the organization this spring, going 7-for-23 with two homers and two stolen bases in Grapefruit League play. The outfielder averaged .274 with 18 homers and 16 stolen bases in his last three minor-league campaigns. With Gregory Polanco (shoulder) and Corey Dickerson (shoulder) not due back for several weeks, there's a decent chance Martin sees extended play, especially while he stays hot.
