Angels' Parker Markel: Doesn't make active roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel (undisclosed) is not included on the Angels' 30-man roster.

Markel missed all of summer camp while dealing with an undisclosed issue, so his exclusion from the Opening Day roster is not surprising. The right-hander was far from a lock to make break camp with the squad in any case after allowing 19 earned runs in 22 innings last season as a member of the Mariners and Pirates.

Angels' Parker Markel: Placed on IL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Angels placed Markel on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to an unspecified issue.

Though the Angels outrighted Markel to the minors in February, he has since been added back to the team's 40-man roster, making him eligible for the injured list. After giving up 19 earned runs in 22 innings last season between stops with the Mariners and the Pirates, the right-hander wasn't considered likely to crack the Angels' 30-man Opening Day roster, and his move to the IL only further diminishes his chances.

Angels' Parker Markel: Added to 60-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel will be part of the Angels' 60-man roster.

Markel was dealt to the Angels at the end of the 2019 season, but was designated for assignment in February and outrighted to Triple-A shortly afterwards. The 29-year-old struggled to the tune of a 7.77 ERA with both Pittsburgh and Seattle in 2019, so he'd likely be looking at low-leverage situations should he ultimately break camp.

Angels' Parker Markel: Outrighted to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

The 29-year-old was removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week but will stay in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. Markel will remain in big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, but he's in line to begin the season in the minors.

Angels' Parker Markel: Removed from 40-man roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was designated for assignment by the Angels on Monday.

Markel was picked up in a trade from the Pirates early in the offseason but won't wind up making it to spring training on the Angels' 40-man roster. As a 29-year-old with a 7.77 ERA in just 22 career big-league innings, he's unlikely to be a hot commodity on the waiver wire.

Angels' Parker Markel: Traded to Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was traded to the Angels on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations.

Markel saw his first major-league action in 2019, and struggled with a 7.77 ERA and 1.95 WHIP over 22 innings with the Mariners and Pirates. The 29-year-old posted a 1.74 ERA with a 75:26 K:BB in 41.1 innings in the minors last season, and he'll look to translate that into major-league success in 2020.

Pirates' Parker Markel: Quick return to majors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Nubyjas Wilborn of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Markel was sent to Triple-A on Tuesday, but because he's replacing an injured player, he'll be eligible to return to the big leagues in less than 10 days. The right-hander owns an unimpressive 11.57 ERA and 2.68 WHIP with a 9:9 K:BB over 9.1 innings this season in the majors.

Pirates' Parker Markel: Sent down

Markel was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.

The right-hander made a pair of appearances during his first stint with the Pirates, giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out four over three innings. Markel made his first five career appearances with the Mariners, giving up eight runs on 10 hits -- including three homers -- over 4.2 innings en route to being DFA'd.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was claimed off waivers by the Pirates and sent to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Markel made five appearances for the Mariners prior to being designated for assignment, allowing nine runs (eight earned) in just 4.2 innings. Rookie Davis (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list to free up a roster spot for Markel.

Mariners' Parker Markel: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday.

Markel made five appearances for the Mariners this season, allowing nine runs (eight earned) in just 4.2 innings of work. His 2.60 ERA and 37.0 percent strikeout rate for Triple-A Tacoma could be enough for him to get claimed off waivers, however.

Mariners' Parker Markel: Gets demoted
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mariners optioned Markel to Triple-A Tacoma after Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Angels, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Markel joined the big club shortly before the All-Star break and made only one appearance in relief during his brief stint in Seattle. The Mariners will fill his spot in the bullpen and on the 25-man roster with Sam Tuivailala (Achilles), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Markel was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Mariners' Parker Markel: Earns first callup to majors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mariners selected Markel's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The 6-foot-4 right-hander will get his first call to the big leagues at 28 years old after a slow climb through the minors that included a pit stop in independent ball in 2018. Markel earned the promotion through his lights-out work between Tacoma and Double-A Arkansas, where he combined to post a gaudy 0.52 ERA and 35:7 K:BB in 17.1 innings. If he continues to excel in the majors, Markel could climb up the pecking order quickly in a rather unsettled Seattle bullpen depth chart.
