Rutckyj was released by the Yankees on Saturday, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
The 25-year-old reliever allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning at Double-A this year, and apparently that was enough to seal his fate.
Rutckyj was sent to minor league camp Sunday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
During his limited action in the Grapefruit League, Rutckyj was a liability on the mound. Over just 2.1 innings, he gave up seven runs (five earned) off five hits and three walks. Rutckyj will likely start the season at Double-A Trenton and give the Yankees further organizational depth.
The 31-year-old has spent his entire career in the Yankees organization, only progressing to Double-A in his seven seasons. In his time at Double-A, the southpaw has a 4.12 ERA across 19.2 innings while striking out 25. He will likely stay in the minors in 2017 and serve as organizational depth.
