Martin was released by the Red Sox on Wednesday in order to pursue opportunities in Japan, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
The 27-year-old made his first two major-league appearances last year for the Red Sox, allowing a run in 2.1 innings. He's spent the entirety of the 2018 season with Triple-A Pawtucket, posting a 3.33 ERA in 51.1 innings of relief.
The Red Sox reassigned Martin to their minor-league camp Sunday.
Despite posting an underwhelming 4.36 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 53.2 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket last season, Martin earned his first promotion to the big leagues in July before being optioned back to the minors shortly thereafter and later designated for assignment. Though Martin was given the opportunity to compete for a bullpen gig with the big club in spring training, the absence of a 40-man roster spot was always going to make it difficult for him to break camp with Boston.
Martin was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
Martin will report to Pawtucket -- where he compiled a 4.36 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 53.2 innings earlier in the season -- after passing through waivers untouched. He made just two appearances for the Red Sox this season, allowing one run in 2.1 innings of work. Martin will serve as organizational bullpen depth moving forward.
Martin was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Tuesday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
The move clears room on the 40-man roster for Carson Smith, who was activated from the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move. Martin compiled a 4.36 ERA and 50 strikeouts through 53.2 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. He'll take a spin through waivers to determine his landing spot.
Martin was officially optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
Martin's demotion clears up a spot on the active roster for prized third-base prospect Rafael Devers, whose contract was formally selected from Triple-A on Moday. During his brief stay with the Red Sox, Martin made two appearances out of the bullpen, giving up one run over 2.1 innings.
Martin will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports.
Martin will be cleared off Boston's active 25-man roster in order to create room for the arrival of top prospect Rafael Devers. Just called up less than a week ago, Martin allowed one run on two hits and two walks over 2.1 innings for Boston.
Martin was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
The Red Sox will bring up two fresh arms for the bullpen in Martin and Ben Taylor, with long reliever Hector Velazquez and spot starter Brian Johnson heading back to Triple-A in corresponding moves. It's the first promotion to the big leagues for Martin, who compiled a 3.79 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 38 innings with Pawtucket.
Martin was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Martin, who was added to the 40-man roster during the offseason, is seen as a depth option for the bullpen. The right-hander had success against both sides of the plate last season with his changeup being a weapon against lefties.
Martin was added to the Red Sox's 40-man roster on Friday, the Boston Herald's Michael Silverman reports.
Boston deemed Martin worthy of protection from the Rule 5 draft. He represents a bullpen depth option and is nearly ready for the majors. According to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier, Martin features a swing-and-miss changeup that plays off a low-to-mid-90s fastball.
