Cole was outrighted from the 40-man roster Monday, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.
Cole got his first taste of the majors last season. He pitched one inning in one game, and it didn't go well. The 27-year-old righty gave up four runs, all earned, on six hits and a walk. Moving forward he'll likely provide organizational depth in the bullpen.
The club moved Aaron Sanchez (finger) to the 60-day disabled list to make room. Cole, who sustained a fractured right toe earlier in the season, hasn't allowed a run across 12.2 minor-league innings in three different levels but will serve merely as a depth reliever as the Blue Jays play out the string.
The club cut the right-hander Monday to remove him from the 40-man roster while he was recovering from a fractured toe. Cole may still need time to nurse the injury before he sees action for Triple-A Buffalo, though the organization should clarify his status in due time.
The Blue Jays released Cole (toe) on Monday, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.
Cole had a tenuous hold on a 40-man roster spot, and rather than waiting for him to recover from the fractured right toe that resulted in his placement on the disabled list last week, the Blue Jays determined he was expendable. He'll be replaced on the roster by Tim Mayza, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Given the nature of his injury and the limited time left on the baseball schedule this season, Cole may not latch on with another organization on a minor-league deal until the winter.
Cole was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right toe, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Cole was hit with a comeback during Wednesday's loss to the Yankees, and while he was able to finish the inning, later tests revealed he was dealing with an injury serious enough to warrant a stay on the DL. The 27-year-old struggled in his only appearance for the big club this season, allowing four runs on six hits in just one inning of work. Chris Smith, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move, will take his place on the roster and in the bullpen.
