Adam Ravenelle: Calls end to playing career
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle informed the Tigers on Wednesday that he has decided to retire from professional baseball, Emily Waldon of The Athletic Detroit reports.

A fourth-round pick in 2014, Ravenelle advanced to Double-A Erie this season and posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 20 frames. With the odds against the 25-year-old ever reaching the big leagues, he elected to hang up his cleats and pursue other opportunities.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Activated from minor-league DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle (shoulder) was activated from the minor-league disabled list Monday.

Ravenelle is back in action with the SeaWolves after missing more than a month with a rotator cuff strain. Prior to landing on the DL, the right-hander compiled a 4.91 ERA and 8:6 K:BB across 11 innings.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Sent to extended spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle will begin the season at extended spring training, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.

Ravenelle finished last season at Double-A, but he dealt with elbow injuries this spring, so the Tigers are going to have him do some more drills and workouts before he gets rolling this year. He only pitched 29.2 innings at Double-A in 2016, so the organization will probably get him some work there eventually.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Sent to minor league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday.

Ravenelle split last season between High-A and Double-A, where his numbers took a dip, and the Tigers probably want to see more from him at the Double-A level before he advances. They also want to see him healthy, as an elbow issue cost him some time last week.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Resumes throwing program
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle (elbow) is back on his throwing program after exiting Saturday's game with an injury, the Detroit News reports.

Ravenelle said he experienced numbness in his fingers during his last outing, which can sometimes be a result of a pinched nerve. Two MRIs revealed no ligament damage to his right elbow, so he should be fine moving forward after the brief scare.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: No ligament damage to elbow
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle underwent an MRI on Sunday that revealed no ligament damage to his right elbow, but he'll be sent to another doctor in the coming days for a second opinion, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Ravenelle was pulled from Saturday's Grapefruit League outing against the Yankees after losing feeling in his pitching fingers, but early indications are that he's avoided a significant injury. The young hurler previously required ulnar nerve transposition surgery in 2012, so it's possible that the setback he incurred Saturday could be related to that. While the Tigers don't seem to fear that Ravenelle will require a procedure to address the injury, it's conceivable that he could be shut down temporarily. The team isn't likely to offer up a firm timetable for the 24-year-old until after he receives the second opinion.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Exits with apparent injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle was pulled in the middle of an at-bat Saturday with an apparent injury, Evan Woodbery of MLive reports.

No specifics are known about the injury at this point, as Ravenelle left with pitching coach Rich Dubee and the athletic trainer. The 24-year-old is set for an MRI and will be considered day-to-day until more is released about his injury.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Working on secondary pitches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle is working on adding a changeup to his repertoire and refining his slider, The Detroit Free Press reports.

Ravenelle throws hard (he said the fastest pitch he's ever thrown touched 101 mph). But of course, gas alone won't cut it at the MLB level. The 24-year-old is working on offspeed stuff in an attempt to make the jump. Last year, he advanced to Double-A, where he posted a 4.85 ERA across 29.2 innings.

Tigers' Adam Ravenelle: Earns gig on FSL All-Star squad
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ravenelle has been named to the Florida State League (High-A) All-Star game.

The 23-year-old has not moved through the Detroit system as fast as was first believed. But this season, Ravenelle is starting to consolidate some gains. He has a 2.96 ERA and a 1.171 WHIP in 27.1 innings with Lakeland. He is 2-1 with three saves and a 10.9 K/9IP rate. Ravenelle needs to take some big steps soon, as he just too old for this level.
