Hathaway (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Friday, the Associated Press reports.
Hathaway, who has been sidelined all season while recovering from shoulder bursitis, recently made his first rehab appearance with Double-A Jackson. After missing all of spring training, Hathaway wasn't on track to join the Diamondbacks in the near future anyway, so moving him to the 60-day DL afforded the big club more roster flexibility. The Diamondbacks added Gregor Blanco to the 40-man roster in place of Hathaway.
Hathaway joined Double-A Jackson on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, Jack Magruder of Fanrag Sports reports.
Hathaway finally appears to be nearing a return to action after missing the first month of the season with bursitis in his left shoulder. The 25-year-old saw some time in the majors last season, but given his 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 14.2 innings with the big club, he'll likely head to Triple-A Reno upon activation.
Hathaway (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off flat ground Monday, the Associated Press reports.
Hathaway opened the season on the 10-day disabled list with bursitis in his left shoulder, and since it appears he's only in the initial stages of a throwing program, it could still be a couple more weeks before he's activated from the DL. The 25-year-old turned in a 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 14.2 innings with the big club last season and missed all of spring training due to the shoulder issue, so he'll likely be bound for Triple-A Reno once he's deemed healthy.
Hathaway was out for all of spring training with shoulder bursitis and doesn't have a clear timetable for a return. After turning in a 4.91 ERA over 14.2 innings with the big club last season, Hathaway figures to head back to the minors once he's activated and deemed healthy enough to pitch again.
Hathaway (shoulder) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list, Fox Sports Arizona reports.
Since it was announced in February that Hathaway was dealing with bursitis in his shoulder, there has been very little information regarding his level of throwing activity. Because he hasn't pitched any live innings this spring, the Diamondbacks will look to have him throw in a few rehab games before making his eventual return to the big club's bullpen.
