Smith (elbow) was moved to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Smith will make way on the 40-man roster for Adeiny Hechavarria, whose contract was purchased in a corresponding move. The move has no effect on Smith's recovery timeline, as he's out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Smith (elbow) was officially placed on the 10-day IL, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
He underwent Tommy John surgery this spring, so he will miss all of 2019 and some of 2020. Smith will likely eventually be transferred to the 60-day IL once the Mets need a 40-man spot.
Smith will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
Smith was evaluated Sunday for what was initially diagnosed as elbow soreness, and the news apparently wasn't good. The timing of the procedure means that Smith will work towards returning sometime in the middle of the 2020 season.
Smith is returning to New York on Sunday to be evaluated for right elbow soreness, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Smith had yet to allow a run over four spring training appearances before being forced to return to the Big Apple. The 25-year-old is likely to be sidelined for at least a few days while the severity of the injury is determined.
Smith was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
Smith will provide additional depth to New York's bullpen ahead of this weekend series against the Yankees. He's only made three appearances at the big-league level this year, though he was sporting a 2.76 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 32.2 innings with Las Vegas at the time of this promotion. Look for him to be utilized in low-leverage situations.
Smith was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Smith had his contract selected by the Mets on June 22 but hasn't made an appearance in over a week. The 24-year-old returns to Las Vegas -- where he had 3.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 30 innings -- to make room for Sunday's starter Chris Flexen.
Smith had his contract selected by the Mets on Friday.
As expected, Smith will join the major-league roster to add extra depth to the Mets' bullpen after the club made a series of roster moves. The 24-year-old has never appeared in a big-league game, but compiled a healthy 3.00 ERA and 28:12 K:BB across 30 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas this year.
Smith is expected to have his contract selected by the Mets, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
The Mets optioned out two relievers after their series against the Rockies, so it'd make sense to restock the bullpen with a player like Smith. In 21 appearances (one start) at Triple-A Las Vegas this year, he notched a 3.00 ERA to go with a 1.20 WHIP and 28 strikeouts over 30.0 innings. The Mets will have to make a 40-man roster move before officially adding him.
Smith has received an invitation to the Mets's big-league camp, Abbey Mastracco of NJ.com reports.
Smith was a part of the trade that sent Lucas Duda to the Rays, and he spent the rest of season at Double-A Binghamton after coming to the Mets. He tossed 15.0 innings and gave up just three earned runs at Double-A, and figures to begin with the 2018 campaign with the Rumble Ponies.
Smith was traded to the Mets on Thursday in exchange for Lucas Duda, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Although Smith isn't the most high-profile prospect in the Rays' system, many teams have been interested in him thanks to the high-octane fastball and above-average breaking ball he flashes as a reliever. He strikes out batters at a solid rate, and he even managed to make a brief appearance at the Triple-A level this season. Smith is already 23 years old, but he likely needs a bit more seasoning in the upper levels of the minor leagues before appearing out of the Mets' bullpen.
Smith was sent to the Rays to complete the Mikie Mahtook trade that took place in January, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Smith represents the player to be named later in the offseason trade with the Tigers. The 23-year-old was taken in the third round of the 2015 draft out of Dallas Baptist University. He owns a combined 1.77 ERA with a 112:32 K:BB in three seasons (91.1 innings) across the low minors. Smith will report to High-A Charlotte.
