  • Rangers' Jack Kruger: Designated for assignment

  • Rangers' Jack Kruger: Catches on with Rangers

The Rangers claimed Kruger off waivers from the Angels on Sunday. Texas appears comfortable with the two catchers on its 26-man active roster (Jose Trevino and Jonah Heim), so Kruger will likely report to Triple-A Round Rock as he joins a new organization. The 26-year-old backstop never had the opportunity to make his big-league debut for the Angels, but Kruger could be first in line for a call-up in Texas if Trevino or Heim is deactivated at any point this season. During his last minor-league campaign in 2019, Kruger cobbled together a .240/.300/.309 slash line over 380 plate appearances at Double-A Mobile.

  • Angels' Jack Kruger: Designated for assignment

Kruger was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Kruger spent a single day on the big-league roster as the backup for Kurt Suzuki, with Max Stassi dealing with a concussion. He got to make his big-league debut off the bench but did not get into the game. Drew Butera was acquired in a trade with the Rangers in a corresponding move and will fill the backup catcher role.

  • Angels' Jack Kruger: Recalled to big-league club

Kruger had his contract selected by the Angels on Thursday. Primary catcher Max Stassi (concussion) was placed on the injured list Thursday, so Kruger should take over the backup role. His last official game action came at Double-A Mobile in 2019, when he hit .240/.300/.309 across 380 plate appearances. Kurt Suzuki should see the majority of the time behind the plate for the Angels while Stassi is sidelined.

  • Angels' Jack Kruger: Monster day at dish

Kruger went 2-for-6 with a home run, a triple, two runs scored and six RBI in Monday's game against Texas. Kruger didn't start the ballgame, but he left his mark by launching a three-run homer in the seventh inning and by lacing a triple to right field in the ninth to plate three more. He slashed .305/.328/.443 with four homers and 24 RBI at Double-A Mobile last season, where he figures to begin his 2019 campaign.
