Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Solid in no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin fired five innings of seven-hit, three-run ball while walking one and striking out three during the Rangers' 7-3 loss to Arizona on Wednesday.

In the first start of his career, Benjamin exited the game in a 3-3 draw and was relieved by Nick Goody, who promptly gave up three runs without escaping the inning. Making his seventh and likely final appearance of the season, Benjamin's ERA now sits at 4.64.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Slated for traditional start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Texas added Benjamin to its rotation last week as a replacement for the struggling Kolby Allard, but the 27-year-old southpaw ended up working behind an opener in his first "start" Sept. 18, giving up two runs over four innings as a primary pitcher en route to taking a loss to the Angels. Benjamin will now get the opportunity to make his first proper MLB start in what will likely be his final outing of 2020. Considering he tossed 83 pitches in his appearance against the Angels, Benjamin should be reasonably stretched out.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Takes first loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin (1-1) was charged with the loss against the Angels on Friday after surrendering two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four across four innings.

Benjamin pitched behind opener Jimmy Herget and struggled to find his groove, giving up an RBI single to Taylor Ward in the second inning and a solo home run to Albert Pujols in the fifth. The 27-year-old did manage to strike out four batters on the night, throwing 53 of 83 pitches for strikes. Across 16.1 innings this season, Benjamin holds a 4.41 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The southpaw is slated to start Wednesday's matchup at Arizona.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Shifts to rotation role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin will work out of the starting rotation for the Rangers for now, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.

Kolby Allard was moved to the bullpen Tuesday, and Benjamin was named as his replacement in the rotation for now. Benjamin could make his first major-league start on the road Friday against the Angels. The southpaw has had inconsistent results out of the bullpen during his first taste of big-league action as he carries a 4.38 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 12.1 innings across five outings.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: May move to rotation
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Texas manager Chris Woodward said Benjamin could replace starter Kolby Allard the next time through the rotation, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Benjamin picked up the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader as the primary pitcher. It was the second time in five appearances he's thrown at least four innings. In the second game of the twin bill, Allard failed to get an out in the second inning, and he's gone fewer than five innings in five of his eight starts.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin (1-0) earned the win during Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the A's after allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over four four innings. He struck out four.

The 27-year-old worked as the primary pitcher behind opener Nick Goody and recorded the first win of his career. Benjamin has a 4.38 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across 12.1 innings and should return to a more traditional bullpen role for the final stretch of the season.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Will pitch Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin will pitch in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Oakland, T.R. Sullivan of reports.

The Rangers have not announced a starter for the second game, but manager Chris Woodward confirmed Benjamin will have a role. The left-hander could start or follow a right-handed opener. Benjamin has a 4.32 ERA with nine strikeouts and three walks over 8.1 innings, including one appearance that lasted 4.1 innings.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Saves bullpen Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three over 4.1 relief innings in Friday's 7-4 loss to Seattle.

The Rangers' bullpen was needed immediately, as starter Kolby Allard was chased after two-thirds of an inning. Benjamin, a minor-league starter, managed to provide length and save bullpen arms. After ceding lone runs in the second and third innings, Benjamin retired the final nine batters faced. Following the game, manager Chris Woodward mentioned him as a possible starter, T.R. Sullivan of reports. "By the way he threw tonight, maybe," Woodward said. "It's a consideration, for sure. What he did tonight, obviously he knows what his role is right now -- come in when something goes down early. I like what I have seen. I know he is going to throw the ball over the plate. I know he is going to command all four pitches. The more I get him out there, the more I like him. He is making a case for sure." Three of the five current members of the rotation sport ERAs of 6.94 or higher -- Mike Minor being one of them. It's unlikely Minor would be replaced, unless by injury, but both Allard (7.82) and Jordan Lyles (7.52) are prime candidates for replacement.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Contract selected by Rangers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin's contract was selected by the Rangers on Tuesday.

Benjamin didn't crack the Rangers' Opening Day roster despite a strong showing in camp, but he'll now claim a spot in the major-league bullpen. The southpaw hasn't yet made his MLB debut but posted a 5.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 27 appearances (25 starts) with Triple-A Nashville last season.

Rangers' Wes Benjamin: Angling for roster spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Benjamin pitched two scoreless innings Saturday and is unscored upon with 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings in four summer camp appearances, T.R. Sullivan of reports.

Benjamin wasn't on the radar in spring training, but the left-hander has put himself in the mix for a roster spot with his work in camp. He was a starter in the minors, but lefty relievers Joely Rodriguez (lat) and Brett Martin (COVID-19) will not start the season on the active roster, so the 25-year-old Benjamin could make his MLB debut as a reliever in 2020.
