Twins' Edwar Colina: Sent back to secondary site
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colina was optioned off the Twins' roster Saturday.

Colina made his big-league debut on his first ever day on a big-league roster Friday, and it could hardly have gone worse. He allowed three runs on four hits while walking two and recording just a single out, and he's now been removed from the roster just one day later. Devin Smeltzer was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

Twins' Edwar Colina: Contract selected by Twins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colina's contract was purchased by the Twins on Friday.

Colina is at least a moderately interesting prospect, with a fastball that sits in the upper 90s and decent command. He recorded a 2.96 ERA and a 25.4 percent strikeout rate in 97.1 innings across the three highest levels of the minors last season, though just 4.2 of those innings came at Triple-A. He'll give the Twins an extra bullpen option for the final series of the season, with Homer Bailey getting designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Twins' Edwar Colina: Cleared for participation
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colina (illness) has been cleared to participate in baseball activities, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Colina was away from the team while recovering from COVID-19, but he's now produced two negative tests and has been cleared to resume activities. The 23-year-old is building up in Fort Myers prior to flying to the Twins' camp, likely sometime this week. The right-hander isn't likely to make the active roster to begin the season due to his lack of experience in the higher levels of the minors.

Twins' Edwar Colina: Tests positive for COVID-19
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colina is not with the Twins as he's tested positive for coronavirus, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Colina has tested negative since his original positive test, but MLB rules dictate that he remain isolated for now. His lost time this month will hurt his ability to be ready to pitch by Opening Day, though he was never likely to begin the season on the active roster as he's made just two appearances at the Triple-A level.

Twins' Edwar Colina: Joins 60-man player pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colina was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports.

Colina moved from High-A to Triple-A last season fueled by high strikeout rates (8.9 K/9 at High-A and 10.7 K/9 at Double-A). However, he'll need to improve his control (4.4 BB/9 at Double-A) to thrive in the majors. While he'll likely begin the season at Minnesota's alternate training site, he's a candidate to be used in the major league bullpen during the 60-game season.
