Reds' Mac Sceroler: Returned to Reds
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler cleared waivers and was returned to the Reds on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Sceroler was selected by the Orioles with the fifth pick of the Rule 5 draft in December, but he was designated for assignment by Baltimore on Tuesday. The right-hander made five relief appearances for the Orioles to begin the year and allowed 15 runs (12 earned) on 15 hits and seven walks while striking out 11 in 7.2 innings. He'll report to Double-A Chattanooga now that he's back in the Reds' organization.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Tuesday.

Sceroler has made five appearances for the Orioles this season, allowing at least three runs in four of them despite never throwing more than 2.2 innings. He owns a 14.09 ERA and 2.87 WHIP in 7.2 innings overall. Mickey Jannis had his contract selected in a corresponding move.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Poor return Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler allowed six runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings in a 14-1 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old's first appearance after missing nearly two months with a shoulder injury was disastrous. Sceroler was taken deep for solo shots by Kevin Pillar and Mason Williams in the eighth inning, and a three run-blast by Billy McKinney in the ninth. In limited time this year, the right-hander has already allowed five homers in 5.2 innings. He'll likely remain in a low-leverage role as long as he's in the majors.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Returns from injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Sceroler made just two relief appearances this season before hitting the injured list with right shoulder tendinitis in mid-April. He gave up eight runs over 4.1 innings across a pair of rehab appearances for Triple-A Norfolk but was nevertheless deemed ready to go. Sceroler will likely fill a low-leverage relief role upon his return.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Begins rehab assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Sceroler resumed throwing in early May, and he returned to game action in his rehab outing Thursday. He allowed four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three in 1.2 innings. Sceroler served as a reliever earlier in the season, so he might not need much time to build up in the minors.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Progressing in recovery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler (shoulder) recently threw a side session and is nearing his return from the injured list, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old had yet to resume throwing as of April 24, but he's apparently progressed significantly over the past couple weeks. Sceroler likely will need to face live batters before being cleared to return from the injured list.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Not yet throwing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler (shoulder) hasn't yet resumed throwing, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday that Sceroler is progressing well at the team's alternate training site, and the right-hander's shoulder is feeling better. However, a better timetable for Sceroler's return to game action likely won't come into focus until he resumes throwing. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in 3.2 innings across his first two major-league appearances.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Test results encouraging
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Thursday that he's encouraged by Sceroler's (shoulder) test results so far, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Sceroler was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to right shoulder tendinitis, retroactive to April 13, but he isn't expected to miss much time. The Orioles haven't given a specific timetable for Sceroler's return, but he's eligible to be activated as soon as April 23. In his first two major-league appearances, Sceroler allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six in 3.2 innings.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Placed on 10-day IL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler was placed on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder tendinitis, retroactive to April 13.

Sceroler had a clean major-league debut April 5, but he gave up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two in one inning against the Red Sox on Sunday. The right-hander's shoulder issue may have contributed to his struggles, and he'll now miss time while he recovers. Travis Lakins was recalled from the team's alternate training site to fill in as a reliever while Sceroler is sidelined. It's not yet clear how much time Sceroler will miss as a result of his injury.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Clean outing in major-league debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with two walks and four strikeouts in Monday's 7-0 loss to the Yankees.

Sceroler struggled through spring training, but his first official outing went well. The 25-year-old was called on to mop up some innings in a blowout loss Monday, and he did well. The right-hander worked as a starter with High-A Dayton in 2019, posting a 3.69 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 127:29 K:BB, but it's a big jump to the majors just two years later. Expect Sceroler to begin 2021 in low-leverage, multi-inning assignments for the Orioles.

Orioles' Mac Sceroler: Earns roster spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sceroler will make the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The Orioles had extra incentive to keep Sceroler around, as he's a Rule 5 pick and would have to be offered back to the Reds should he fail to earn a spot. That seems to be the main reason he'll break camp with the team, as it's hard to say he earned a job this spring. He struggled to a 6.43 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 3:6 K:BB in seven Grapefruit League innings. He's unlikely to get close to high-leverage opportunities this season.
