Marlon Byrd: Does not receive qualifying offer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd (suspension) did not receive a qualifying offer from the Indians and is now a free agent, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Considering Byrd will not be eligible to return from a 162-game PED suspension until two months into the 2017 season, he is pretty unappealing as a free agent. If he wants to continue to play professional baseball, he may be forced to accept a minor league contract.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Suspended 162 games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd has been suspended 162 games for PED use, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.

Byrd was having a solid season offensively, hitting .270 with five home runs and 19 RBI through 34 games prior to the suspension. However, the 38-year-old will now be forced to sit out a full season after testing positive for PEDs. With Byrd turning 39 in August, it is unknown whether he will try to return to baseball next season or call it a career, but more information regarding his future should come to light in the weeks and months ahead.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Suspended 162 games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd has been suspended for 162 games, Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports.

Byrd was having a solid year at the plate prior to being suspended, hitting .270/.326/.452 with five home runs and 19 RBI through 34 games. His suspension is likely due to repeated PED use, but no official word has been released so it can't be confirmed at this time. With Byrd sitting at the age of 38, it is unknown whether he will serve his suspension and try to return to baseball, or call it a career. More information should be released regarding the situation in the near future.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Homers in Cleveland's blowout win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd went 3-for-5 with a homerun, two RBI and three runs scored in Cleveland's 15-6 victory against the Reds.

The outfielder's playing time has diminished this month, but with Michael Brantley back on the disabled list Byrd could be in line for a string of starts in the coming weeks. Byrd has three home runs and 14 RBI for the season to go along with his .253 batting average.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Out of lineup Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Byrd had started the previous three games in the corner outfield, but went just 2-for-14 with six strikeouts during that time. Though Michael Brantley (shoulder) went back on the DL and Lonnie Chisenhall (personal) remains on the bereavement list, manager Terry Francona will turn to Jose Ramirez and Michael Martinez in the corner spots Sunday as a means of getting more lefty bats into the lineup against right-hander Tyler Duffey.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Will start in right field Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd will get the start in right field in Saturday's matchup with the Royals.

Byrd will start in right field and bat seventh while Lonnie Chisenhall gets the day off. He's a lifetime .400 hitter with two home runs and just three strikeouts in 25 at-bats against Saturday's starter Ian Kennedy.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Out of the lineup Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

With Lonnie Chisenhall returning, at-bats are going to be increasingly difficult to come by for the 38-year-old Byrd. Even more so, he's just 1-for-14 over his past six games, dropping his average down to .241 on the season. A professional hitter, Byrd is still a useful piece as a pinch hitter.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Is in Tuesday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is in the lineup and batting seventh for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Will start Wednesday against Twins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd will start in right and bat eighth in the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

Byrd is replacing Lonnie Chisenhall (neck) in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game. The 38-year-old has played in 14 games for the Indians this season, batting .295 with two home runs and eight RBI. Even though Byrd strikes out a decent amount (28.8 percent on the year), he has always been a reliable power bat and could be available on waivers for owners looking for some home runs and RBI.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Out of the lineup Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners.

Coming off his third multi-hit game in four tries, Byrd will get Wednesday afternoon off. This recent hot streak, where he's hit 6-for-14 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Jose Ramirez will take Byrd's spot in left field on Wednesday and Byrd could find at-bats tough to come by with the return of Lonnie Chisenhall.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Out of lineup Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is out of the lineup Saturday against the Mets.

Rajai Davis will shift over to right field Saturday while Jose Ramirez takes Byrd's spot in the order when the Indians take on Matt Harvey and the Mets for Game 2 of their series. Ramirez, a switch hitter, will add another left-handed bat to the order against Matt Harvey, who held right-handers such as Byrd to a .218 batting average against last season. That said, Byrd is batting a respectable .278 this season and figures to draw back into the order Sunday.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Out of Saturday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd is out of Saturday's lineup against the White Sox.

Byrd has two hits through three games and has also struck out in half of his at-bats, so it's easy to see why the Indians are opting to sit him against Chris Sale. Collin Cowgill will get the start in right field and hit ninth.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Makes Indians roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd was informed Monday that he will break camp with the Indians.

Byrd did not join the Indians until mid-March, but he made a quick impression by going 7-for-15 in five games, and will head into the regular season with a spot on the big league roster. Byrd's role is not clearly defined, but he at least figures to start against left-handers, and could see extra at-bats early on with Michael Brantley (shoulder) and Lonnie Chisenhall (forearm) banged up.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Doubles twice as bid for roster spot continues
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd doubled twice Saturday and has seven hits in 15 at-bars since signing with the Indians.

Byrd's still fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster, but he's certainly hit the ground running after joining the Indians late in spring training.

Indians' Marlon Byrd: Signs minor league deal with Indians
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Byrd signed a minor league deal with the Indians, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 38-year-old Byrd hit 23 home runs in 135 games last season, but he's a liability in the outfield and doesn't offer much besides power at the plate. That being said, he did post an .817 OPS against southpaws in 2015, potentially putting him in the mix for a platoon role with the Indians.

Giants' Marlon Byrd: Likely will not be back with Giants
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Veteran outfielder Marlon Byrd will likely not have his $8 million option exercised by the Giants, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise considering Byrd was benched toward the end of the year and the Giants already have a plethora of outfield options available on their roster. Byrd did smack 23 home runs in 2015 (four with the Giants) so he will likely command some interest on the open market, but it must be remembered that he's 38 years old.

Giants outfielder Marlon Byrd is unlikely to see a high volume of reps during the final week of the season.
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Giants outfielder Marlon Byrd is unlikely to see a high volume of reps during the final week of the season, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports.

Byrd needs just 15 more plate appearances to vest an $8 million dollar option, so the financially-conscious Giants will likely be resting the outfielder often. In his stead, look for Jarrett Parker and Mac Williamson to see extra reps in an outfield that has been ravaged by injuries in 2015.

Giants OF Marlon Byrd continues to rake Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Underappreciated Giants outfielder Marlon Byrd continued his steady production Wednesday by going 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, run scored, and RBI in a win over his former teammates from Cincinnati.

Byrd continues to swing a hot bat since being acquired by the Giants. His home run rate has decreased from 18.9 AB/HR to 32.7 AB/HR switching to cavernous AT&T Park, but he has been hitting for a better average (.306) and has driven in 25 in 25 games since coming to San Francisco.

With the Giants shutting down several of their veteran outfielders due to injury, Byrd has become a mainstay in the everyday lineup.

by Elliot Smith | CBSSports.com

Giants outfielder Marlon Byrd knows how to celebrate, as the veteran went 3-for-4 with four RBIs on Sunday, his 38th birthday.

Byrd racked up two doubles and a triple as he single-handedly tried to keep the Giants in a game they would lose 7-5. Byrd now has 56 RBIs on the season, 14 of which have been tallied since he was acquired from the Reds on Aug. 20.

Marlon Byrd powers Giants to victory over Cubs on Thursday
by Jason Lempert | CBS Sports Staff

New Giants outfielder Marlon Byrd came through with another big hit, as he led the way to the 9-1 victory over the Cubs on Thursday. Byrd had just one hit on the day, but it was a three-run home run in the third inning to give the Giants a 5-1 lead.

This was Byrd's second home run in six games since coming over to the Giants in a trade earlier this month. It was also his 21st home run overall this season, which is four shy of his career-high, which was set last season.
