Jose Reyes: Hopes to keep playing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is preparing to continue his career during the 2019 season, Jon Heyman of reports.

As a 35-year-old utility man who slashed a deplorable .189/.260/.320 across 251 plate appearances last season, Reyes would do well to secure a minor-league deal this winter. Even that might be ambitious, given Reyes' significant off-field baggage -- he was suspended 52 games in 2016 after an arrest on domestic-violence charges. It wouldn't be surprising if none of the 30 teams were interested in taking a flier on the four-time All-Star.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Expects to only bat once Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is starting at shortstop but is only expected to receive one at-bat Sunday against the Marlins, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

The veteran infielder played 13 innings Saturday night, so between that and the fact that Sunday could be his final game with the Mets, the team will give him a sendoff after his first at-bat. No official word has come forth as to who will replace him at shortstop, though Amed Rosario seems like a good bet to replace him.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Draws start at third base
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes will start at third base and bat seventh Sunday against the Braves.

With Todd Frazier resting in the series finale, Reyes will enter the lineup at the hot corner. It will be Reyes' third start in four games, all of which have come at different positions. Despite the recent uptick in opportunities, it doesn't appear that Reyes has a path to consistent at-bats now that Frazier is healthy, as Jeff McNeil seems to have emerged as the Mets' primary option at second base after Asdrubal Cabrera was traded to the Phillies last week.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Launches two homers vs. Washington
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes went 2-for-3 with two solo homers in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

Reyes slugged solo homers in the fifth and eighth innings, but the Mets would fall in the series finale. The 35-year-old struggled to a .180 average through 19 games in July, so he'll look to turn things around as the calendar flips.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Sitting back-to-back days
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Even after the trade of Asdrubal Cabrera, Reyes hasn't quite yet locked down an everyday role. It appears the last-place Mets are content to work out some of their younger players, whether it be Jeff McNeil or the recently recalled Luis Guillorme, who will man the hot corner Sunday.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Gets breather Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is not in Saturday's starting lineup against the Pirates.

Reyes will take a seat as Trevor Williams is slated to toe the rubber for the Pirates. Jeff McNeil is penciled into the lineup at second base and will bat sixth.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Added to Friday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes was added to the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.

Reyes was slated to come off the bench Friday night, but he will move into the starting lineup in place of Asdrubal Cabrera, who was traded to the Phillies. Reyes will man the hot corner and hit eighth in the Mets' batting order against Pirates starter Ivan Nova.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Sitting Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is not in Thursday's lineup against the Pirates.

Jeff McNeil will get his first big-league start, hitting seventh and manning the hot corner. With the Mets looking to next year, McNeil could be given a decent amount of playing time over the rest of the season if he impresses early on, which would cut into Reyes' at-bats. However, if Asdrubal Cabrera gets moved at the deadline, there would presumably be enough playing time to go around for everyone.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Acting as primary third baseman
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes will play third base and hit eighth Wednesday against the Padres, Anthony DiComo of reports.

The Mets' decision to move Yoenis Cespedes (heels) back to the 10-day disabled list following a one-game cameo after the All-Star break will afford Jose Bautista a full-time role in the outfield, thereby opening up third base for Reyes. The 34-year-old will start Wednesday for the fourth time in five games, but he's still not performing well enough to warrant a roster spot outside of NL-only settings. Reyes is slashing an abysmal .179/.256/.241 on the season, with his 41 wRC+ representing the fourth-worst mark among all players in baseball with at least 150 plate appearances.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Collects seventh extra-base knock
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Nationals.

Reyes plated a run in the second inning with an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1. The 35-year-old has continued to struggle in the month of July, batting .176 with two extra-base hits and two RBI over 12 games. Despite this, Reyes figures to keep drawing starts at the hot corner with Todd Frazier (ribs) on the disabled list for the time being.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Receiving steady at-bats
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes will start at third base and bat seventh Sunday against the Nationals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Since Todd Frazier (ribs) hit the 10-day disabled list July 9, Reyes has stepped in as the Mets' primary third baseman, as he'll draw his sixth start at the position in eight games. The consistent playing time has done little to break Reyes out of his season-long funk, though, with the veteran infielder slashing a woeful .133/.212/.167 in 12 appearances in July. The Mets remain loyal to the franchise mainstay, but he has shown little evidence that he's worthy of a spot on an MLB roster at this point.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Starting for third straight day
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is starting at shortstop Tuesday for the third day in a row, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.

Reyes has not officially supplanted Amed Rosario as the Mets' starting shortstop, but the two have evenly split the starts at the position over the last 10 games. Reyes will hit eighth Tuesday against Pirates starter Chad Kuhl.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Not considering retirement
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is not considering retirement even though his roster spot with the Mets is unsafe, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports. "My body feels good," Reyes said. "I am not thinking about (retiring) at all. I feel like I can still play. Obviously, I am frustrated because when I do get chances I am not getting the job done."

Per Ackert, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson didn't deny reports Tuesday that New York would prefer Reyes retire instead of having to release him. Considering the infielder's extensive history with the club, the Mets would rather give him a celebratory sendoff to end his career than make him a roster casualty who'll then look for work elsewhere. Even if Reyes is released upon the return of Wilmer Flores from the disabled list or sometime after that, the 35-year-old might aim to land with another organization in a reserve role.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Commits two errors in Tuesday's start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes got the start at third base and hit sixth Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with a walk but also committing two throwing errors.

The 34-year-old is really struggling at the plate this season, slashing .145/.203/.200 in 32 games, and Reyes may have taken his frustrations into the field Tuesday. Todd Frazier (hamstring) has begun taking batting practice but lacks a clear timetable for his return. Reyes doesn't seem likely to see much playing time in his place given his current form with the bat and the glove.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Stuck in slump
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes was passed over at third base by rookie Luis Guillorme during the last two games with the veteran hitting .091 (2-for-22) in May.

Even with Todd Frazier (hamstring) on the shelf, Reyes' ice-cold bat is keeping him out of the lineup. He's appeared in 31 games this season and only collected hits in four of them, leading to a brutal .132/.179/.189 slash line on the year. Until the 34-year-old finds his way out of this slump, there's little reason to have him on a fantasy roster, even in the deepest of leagues.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Gets second start in three games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Nationals, Tim Britton of The Athletic New York reports.

Amed Rosario isn't dealing with any reported injury, so Reyes' entry into the lineup for the second time in three games is likely a result of manager Mickey Callaway wanting to keep the veteran sharp as the 34-year-old prepares for a lower-usage utility role in 2018. With 15 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 561 plate appearances last season, Reyes showed that he can still be a fantasy asset when handed regular playing time, but he benefited greatly from injuries hitting the Mets infield hard in 2017. Unless the likes of Rosario, Asdrubal Cabrera and Todd Frazier miss extended time, Reyes probably won't start often enough to warrant a roster spot outside of very deep mixed leagues and NL-only settings.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Swipes two bases Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.

Getting the start at second base and hitting sixth, Reyes showed a little flash of his old self when he stole second and third off Dellin Betances in the fourth inning. The 34-year-old will fill a utility role for the Mets this season and isn't likely to get the 561 plate appearances he posted in 2017, but he can still make a fantasy contribution when he is in the lineup.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Set for outfield reps this spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is expected to see some time in the outfield this spring, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Reyes made two appearances in the outfield last season, so it's not completely unprecedented. At this point in his career, the 34-year-old will likely need to rely on positional flexibility to get in the lineup, so this could prove to be a decent move for him. This is especially pertinent while Michael Conforto (shoulder) is sidelined.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Inks one-year deal with Mets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes signed a one-year contract with the Mets on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Reyes is set to return to New York for another season, though he's expected to fill a utility role in 2018 after starting 126 games around the Mets' infield in 2017. While the 34-year-old hit .246/.315/.413 with a respectable 15 homers and 24 stolen bases last season, his counting stats will likely regress in line with his playing time in 2018, leaving him off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Mets' Jose Reyes: Sits out final game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Reyes is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

Reyes has pieced together a strong month of September, but he'll make his way to the bench for the final game of the season. Gavin Cecchini draws the start at second base in his stead.
