Jimenez was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following Saturday's loss to the Royals.
Jimenez was recalled July 6 by the Tigers and allowed one run over two appearances during his brief stint in the majors. The 24-year-old returns to Toledo, where he has a 2.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB over 37 innings this season.

Jimenez was called up in a corresponding move to the demotion of Ryan Carpenter. He was with the team earlier in the season but worked only 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and two walks. Jimenez has experienced much more success at Triple-A Toledo, posting a 2.92 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 33 strikeouts across 37 innings.

Jimenez got knocked around in his last appearance Thursday against the Angels, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. The Tigers will announce a corresponding move Saturday morning prior to their doubleheader.
The Tigers recalled Jimenez from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.
He'll provide Detroit with an extra relief arm after Drew VerHagen was designated for assignment following Saturday's game against the Royals. Jimenez has yet to debut at the big-league level and will presumably be used in lower-leverage spots in his initial action.

Along with Jimenez, fellow pitchers Casey Mize and Eduardo Paredes were assigned to minor-league camp, reducing the team's big-league contingent to 56 men. Jimenez was never viewed as a serious candidate for an Opening Day roster spot after pitching exclusively at High-A Lakeland last season. He turned in a 3.42 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 50 innings, all in relief.

Detroit opted to protect Jimenez, a 22-year-old reliever, from the Rule 5 draft and added him to the 40-man roster over the winter after he put up a 2.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60 strikeouts across two levels in 2017. Since most of Jimenez's best work came at Low-A West Michigan, he'll open the 2018 campaign in the Florida State League, where he saw his performance dip a bit following a midseason promotion.
