Crisp will not have his option picked up by the Indians, thus making him a free agent, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.
Crisp was a serviceable outfielder for the Indians following his arrival from Oakland, although $13 million was too big of a price to pay to keep the veteran around for another season. The 37-year-old has lost a step, but his solid contact abilities could help him garner a major league spot this offseason.
Crisp is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.
Crisp went 2-for-11 over the last four games he started, so manager Terry Francona decided to hold him out in favor of Rajai Davis.
Crisp went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in the Indians' 7-4 win over the Tigers.
Crisp's home run came in the second inning to lead off the scoring for the Indians, who clinched the AL Central with the win. It was Crisp's 13th home run of the year, and it gave him his 54th and 55th RBI. Although his batting average is just .235, he's hitting .400 in his last seven games.
Crisp went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer against the White Sox on Wednesday.
Crisp hadn't homered since Aug. 17, but this has still been his second-best power season in the last decade. He'd been struggling in a small sample since coming over to the Indians, going only 3-for-17 -- reflective of the sporadic playing time that'll ensure his fantasy value remains quite limited down the stretch.
Crisp will DH and bat leadoff Saturday against the Marlins.
Crisp will face a tough task is his first game back with the Indians (with whom he spent the first four years of his major league career) in Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. It looks like the 36-year-old will only play on a part-time basis with Cleveland, but if he continues batting leadoff when he does start, Crisp may have some appeal as a punt play in daily leagues.
Crisp was added to Cleveland's active roster Thursday.
Crisp has gone just 4-for-28 (.179) over the last 14 games, bringing his batting average down to just .234 for the year. It's unlikely that his performance at the plate is enough to upstage any of Cleveland's starting outfielders, so look for Crisp to simply add depth to the roster and be used when regular starters are given a day off.
Crisp was traded to the Indians on Wednesday in exchange for minor leaguer Colt Hynes.
The veteran will return to Cleveland, where he spent the first four years of his major league career. At age 36, he's no longer the dynamic outfielder he once was, but he'll provide depth down the stretch as the Indians attempt to hold off the Tigers and Royals in the AL Central race. Crisp, who is expected to be added to the roster Friday, hit .234 with 47 RBI in 102 games for Oakland.
Crisp is not in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup against Houston.
Coming off an 0-for-4 outing Monday night, Crisp will head to the bench. He'll be replaced in left field by Brett Eibner when Oakland faces Collin McHugh and the Astros.
Crisp is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.
He has been getting a game off roughly every three days, and that trend continues Wednesday, as Crisp had started the past three games. Crisp is hitting just .223 with four home runs and two steals in 153 plate appearances since the start of July. Brett Eibner will get the start in left field and hit seventh Wednesday.
Crisp is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.
Crisp carries a 1-for-14 career mark against Chicago ace Chris Sale, so manager Bob Melvin will leave him out of the lineup for Saturday's matchup. Instead, the A's will go with right-handers Jake Smolinski and Khris Davis in center and left field, respectively.
Crisp is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.
Though Crisp is a switch hitter, he's fared worse against left-handers throughout his career and this season, so Athletics manager Bob Melvin will keep the veteran on the bench Sunday with southpaw Wade LeBlanc taking the ball for the Mariners. In Crisp's stead, Khris Davis will slot in as the team's left fielder, while Billy Butler enters the lineup at DH.
Crisp is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against Baltimore.
After making three consecutive starts, Crisp will take a seat as Khris Davis fills in left field , batting fourth. Crisp is batting just .237 since the All-Star break (14-for-59) but has picked up 10 walks, giving him a respectable .348 OBP during that time.
Crisp will start in left field and lead off Sunday against the Indians. It's his fourth start in the A's last five games.
It had appeared that Crisp ceded his everyday role in center field to Jake Smolinski after the All-Star break, but Crisp's ability to play all over the outfield has enabled him to see at least semi-regular playing time. To his credit, Crisp has been able to post a respectable .349 on-base percentage since the break, but his age (37) and the A's standing as a rebuilding club could mean that he'll see his at-bats decline over the final two months as the team gives younger options a look in the outfield.
Crisp finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a homer in Wednesday night's series win over Texas.
The veteran outfielder continued his strong series against the Rangers in the comeback win, scoring the first run of the game after a leadoff triple and later capped it off in the eighth with a go-ahead, two-run home run -- his second in as many nights. The Athletics still sit 11 games back in the AL West, but have made a second-half surge, winning nine of their last 13. The club will look to keep things going Friday in Cleveland.
Crisp homered in a 2-for-4 game with a walk and two RBI in Tuesday's win over Texas.
Crisp had missed the past two games with a neck injury but came back in a big way with six total bases. He was stuck in a 3-for-28 slump since July 10 and had missed five games in that span, so perhaps the rest was just what he needed. He hasn't posted an OPS above .700 since 2013, but Tuesday's performance brought his 2016 mark up to .709.
Crisp (neck) is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
The veteran has been battling a neck issue over the past few days that even led him to be scratched from Sunday's lineup, but after a few days of rest, Crisp is set to return to the A's lineup. Crisp will take over in left field and bat leadoff Tuesday against righty Nick Martinez and the Rangers.
Manager Bob Melvin hinted Monday night that Crisp (neck) may rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Crisp notably took batting practice ahead of Monday's game, suggesting that a return was near. The veteran is hitting just .139 over his last 36 at-bats, however.
Crisp (neck) was able to take batting practice from both sides of the plate before Monday's game, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Crisp has been dealing with the neck issue for some time and has occasionally been limited to hitting from one side of the plate or the other as a result. As such, it's a particularly good sign that he's able to swing from both sides after the neck issue forced him to be scratched from Sunday's contest. He is not in Monday's lineup, but could potentially be available off the bench and should be considered day-to-day.
Crisp was scratched from the Athletics' initial lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays due to a sore neck.
Crisp was initially slated to bat leadoff for the A's, but the late-arriving injury prompted manager Bob Melvin to change things up. With Crisp out of the lineup, Jake Smolinski will shift over to center field, Danny Valencia will move from first base to right field, and Yonder Alonso will enter the lineup at first base. Crisp should be viewed as day-to-day until the Athletics provide another update on his situation.
Crisp is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rays.
Crisp will get the day off after going 0-for-4 on Wednesday against Houston. He has had a rough month of July, hitting .196/.302/.399 with no home runs and only four RBI during 46 at-bats. Jake Smolinski will get the start in center as Billy Butler mans the designater hitter position for Thursday.
