  • Athletics' Jacob Lemoine: Returns to minors

    Lemoine was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 28-year-old surrendered seven runs in his two appearances since being recalled May 20, and he'll now head back to Triple-A. Lemoine has a 7.71 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 16.1 innings for Oakland this year.

Lemoine will provide additional bullpen depth for the Athletics after Kirby Snead was sent down Friday. The right-hander was called upon to eat up some innings after starter James Kaprielian made it through just two frames. Lemoine yielded multiple earned runs for the second straight outing, a pair of hiccups that have come following three consecutive scoreless appearances.     Lemoine was informed Sunday that he's made the Athletics' Opening Day roster, Scott Bardow of MLB.com reports. Lemoine spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Round Rock, and he logged a 2.86 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 56.2 innings across 45 appearances (one start). Although the right-hander should serve in a low-leverage role for Oakland, he'll have a chance to make his major-league debut early in the year after tossing six scoreless innings in six appearances this spring.
