Phillies OF Grady Sizemore gets four hits in win on Saturday
by Jason Lempert | CBS Sports Staff

Phillies outfielder Grady Sizemore had his first four-hit game in nearly six years in Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks. Sizemore had a double and three singles, and also scored a run the 7-5 victory.

Sizemore's last four-hit game came on August 21, 2008 as a member of the Indians. The big night upped his season batting average to .275 and he now has nine hits over his last six games. He said that receiving steady at-bats has helped trigger his current success at the plate, MLB.com reports.

"It felt good to have some good swings and get the win," Sizemore said. "I felt like I didn't have a lot of at-bats or a lot of consistent at-bats, so I try to just do what you can to stay sharp and relax up there and keep grinding it out."

Manager Ryne Sandberg agreed, saying Sizemore has progressed into a comfort zone with regular at-bats.

"Grady just seems to be clicking right now," Sandberg said. "He gave us some real good pinch-hits, he got some hits and I think that got him rolling. Now with some starts, he seems to be in a groove. He's just seeing the ball real good, squaring it up."

Grady Sizemore the favorite to start in right field for Phillies?
by Michael Hurcomb | CBS Sports Staff

It appears Phillies outfielder Grady Sizemore is on track to be the team's Opening Day starter in right field with Domonic Brown sidelined due to injury, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sizemore started a third straight spring game in right field Thursday against the Rays, which could be a strong indication of manager Ryne Sandberg's plans for right field with Brown on the disabled list.

The other remaining candidates to start in right field are Jordan Danks and Jeff Francoeur.

While Sizemore appears to be the favorite to start in right field, he is not having a strong performance offensively this spring. He is batting just .200 (9 for 45) with no extra-base hits, three RBI, four walks, five strikeouts and six runs in 17 games.

Phillies OF Grady Sizmore competing to keep roster spot
by Michael Hurcomb | CBS Sports Staff

Phillies outfielder Grady Sizemore has seen more playing time in minor-league games rather than major-league games as of late because the team wants him to quicken his bat after seeing him struggle to stay ahead of pitches in Grapefruit League games, manager Ryne Sandberg said.

"It should be a good thing for him going forward," Sandberg said Wednesday, per The News Journal. "...I think getting him seven or eight at-bats in minor league camp sometimes goes a long way for guys making adjustments and coming out with not only some hits but some reps like that all in one day."

Although the Phillies signed Sizemore to a one-year, major-league deal in October, it sounds as though his spring struggles have put him on the hot seat. Sizemore is batting just .148 (4 for 27) through 12 spring games, and Sandberg wouldn't confirm if Sizemore has a spot on the Opening Day roster.

"As far as the outfield goes, I don't have that settled," Sandberg said Tuesday.

Sizemore is aware of the situation and will continue to compete in order to keep his spot on the roster.

"I play every spring regardless of what my situation is," Sizemore said. "You're fighting for a spot. No, I've been around long enough to know what I need to do and how things are going. So whatever happens moving forward, I'm good with that."
