Delmon Young: Arrested in Miami on Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Young was arrested in Miami on Sunday night, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.

The 30-year-old was released by the Orioles in July and has been a free agent since then. It's currently unclear whether he'll be charged or if he'll be disciplined by the MLB, but this situation won't help him attract potential suitors for his services.

Orioles' Buck Showalter: Delmon Young 'is an option for us in the OF'
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Orioles designated hitter Delmon Young is welcoming more at-bats and opportunities to play in the outfield this spring. On Wednesday, he cranked out three hits, including a home run against the Blue Jays.

"Delmon's a better outfielder than people give him credit for," manager Buck Showalter said, per MASN Sports. "He's running as good as he ever has. He came in here with that in mind, to remind us.

"I was looking at his grades the other day when he came out as a free agent. He's running like that again, he's throwing. He's an above-average thrower.

"Delmon is an option for us in the outfield. He's not a pure DH and that was one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him back. He's a little better out there than people think he is. It may not always look aesthetically pleasing, but tell me one time last year where you went, 'Wow, that really hurt.' He takes a lot of pride in it."

Orioles likely to use a combo of players to replace Markakis in RF
by Michael Hurcomb | CBS Sports Staff

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is expecting to use a few players in right field to replace Nick Markakis, who signed a free-agent deal with the Braves in the offseason.

"We're equipped to have that be a two- or three-headed player," Showalter said of the Orioles' right-field situation which could include a combination of Travis SniderSteve PearceDelmon YoungAlejandro De Aza and Chris Davis, per MLB.com. "It also allows us to keep everybody in the flow and have everybody make contributions with their skill set. But somebody steps out there and takes off with it … that's why I think Steve [Pearce] graduated a little bit from that [role as a part-time player]."

Orioles DH Delmon Young preparing for outfield role
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Orioles designated hitter Delmon Young is preparing for a bigger role this season and has asked to play right field in minor-league games when he doesn't travel with the team during the spring, MLB.com reports.

"Going back to right field, that's where I spent most of my time my whole life," Young said. "Having platoon splits and everything, I don't mind going back to right field. Left field, I don't too much care to be over there, but right field is a lot more comfortable. It's where I played, where I have most of my reps at in the minor leagues."

Young signed a one-year, $2.25-million deal to remain in Baltimore this season after hitting .302/.337/.442 with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 242 at-bats last year. The team will have ample playing time available to distribute with the departures of Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis this offseason.

Orioles outfielder Delmon Young could see more playing time
by Chris Cwik |

Orioles outfielder Delmon Young could see more playing time this season, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Executive vice president Dan Duquette said the team was happy with Young's contribution in a part-time role in 2014, but added that Young could see his playing time increase this year. "Depending on how the team is structured, he could have a more vital role this season," Duqette said.

The Orioles are still looking to for a replacement for Nelson Cruz, and Young could be used to take some of those at-bats. The club has also flirted with Colby Rasmus, but nothing has been accomplished on that front.

Orioles, Delmon Young agree to one-year deal
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Orioles have agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Delmon Young worth $2.25 million, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports. The deal is pending a physical in January.

Young had been in dicussions with the Orioles in November but was reported to be seeking a two-year deal after hitting .302/.337/.442 line with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 242 at-bats with Baltimore in 2014. The two sides were said to be back in discussions earlier in December and have now come to terms on a deal. Young made more than half of his appearances with the team in the designated hitter role last season, but it's possible he could be used more in the outfield with the team losing multiple outfielders this offseason.
