Brandon League: Released by Kansas City
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

League was released by the Royals on Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.

After being informed he wouldn't win a bullpen job with the big club, it appears League was unwilling to report to the Royals' minor-league camp, so he'll become a free agent. The 34-year-old was out of baseball last season and could be nearing the end of the line.

Royals' Brandon League: Receives invitation to spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

League received a spring training invitation from the Royals on Saturday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

League has been out of affiliated baseball since mid-2015 after shoulder issues prematurely ended his tenure with the Dodgers. While he's mostly remembered for his infamous $22.5 million contract, League did put in a good year as recently as 2014, when he posted a 2.57 ERA in 63 innings, so he could still have some major league potential in him as long as his shoulder is healthy.

Dodgers place Yasiel Puig, Joel Peralta on disabled list
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Dodgers placed right fielder Yasiel Puig and pitcher Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Puig reinjured his hamstring Friday, leading manager Don Mattingly to say Saturday that he could possibly hit the disabled list to allow the injury the proper time to rest and heal. Mattlingly said Sunday that the team would "protect" Puig from himself after the outfielder indicated he could play in four or five days.

"It's to the point where we want to get this thing right for the long haul, and in two weeks, [Puig will] be ready to play," Mattingly said. "Yasiel is disappointed. He thinks he'll be ready in four to five days. That's the tough part. We've seen that Yasiel plays at one speed. There's no real putting a governor on him. It's tough for him to say, 'Back off.' We'll protect him from himself."

Peralta was also considered a candidate for the disabled list as he has been dealing with a case of dead arm and has no strength in his shoulder.

"It seems to be lingering, and we want to get rid of it," Mattingly said of Peralta's issue. "We want to eliminate it and move forward. Same with Yasiel. We've messed around enough to say, 'We don't want to play around, play short out of the bullpen and off the bench.'"

With two spots opening on the active roster, the Dodgers purchased the contract of pitcher Scott Baker, who's scheduled to start Sunday's game, while recalling pitcher Carlos Frias from Triple-A Oklahoma City. In order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Baker, the Dodgers transferred Brandon League to the 60-day disabled list.
