Yanks add Capuano, Goody to roster; DFA Jones; option Pinder

The Yankees selected the contract of pitcher Chris Capuano and recalled pitcher Nick Goody from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

To clear two spots on the roster, pitcher Branden Pinder was optioned to Triple-A and infielder/outfielder Garrett Jones was designated for assignment.

1B/OF Garrett Jones receives DFA tag from Yankees

The Yankees have announced that they have designated veteran first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones for assignment.

Jones has been a disappointment this season. He owns a slash line of .215/.257/.361 with just 17 RBI in 144 at-bats. He was coming off several productive years with Miami and Pittsburgh.

Garrett Jones gets two hits, RBI for Yankees

Yankees right fielder Garrett Jones went 2 for 4 in Tuesday's loss to Oakland. 

Jones got one third of the Yankees' six hits in the game and hit in his third straight game. 

Jones' two hits were his first singles since June 26. His last three hits have been two doubles and a homer. 

Jones also drove in a run, his first since July 1.

Yankees' Garrett Jones homers during 3-1 win Wednesday

Yankees first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones homered during a 3-1 win Wednesday against the Angels. He hit a solo home run off Matt Shoemaker in the sixth inning, giving New York a 2-0 lead.

Since June 1, Jones is batting .231 (12 for 52) with one double, four home runs, 10 RBI, six runs, four walks and 10 strikeouts in his last 21 games (11 starts). He has five home runs this season.

Yankees first baseman Garrett Jones went 1 for 5 with a home run in Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia. 

Jones snapped an 11-game home run drought with his fourth homer of the year. He now has 13 RBI.

Yankees' Garrett Jones drives in two runs in loss to Phillies

Yankees first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones drove in two runs during an 11-8 loss Monday against the Phillies. He went 2 for 5 with one double.

Both of Jones' RBI came on a double in the ninth inning, which cut the deficit to three runs. It was just the sixth time in 38 games this season that Jones has totaled at least one RBI.

He is batting .235 (8 for 34) with one double, two home runs, eight RBI, three runs, three walks and 10 strikeouts in 13 June games (seven starts).

Yankees' Garrett Jones to get starts in RF for Carlos Beltran at Miami

Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran will likely sit out some of the games in the upcoming series at Miami. 

Beltran's range and defense has been shaky this year, and manager Joe Girardi plans to have Garrett Jones play right field in the spacious right field in Miami. 

"We knew when we got him, he wasn't the center fielder he was back in the day. We knew that," Girardi said of Beltran, per "Our ballpark being a shorter distance between home and right, it doesn't play in as much. But you get to some of these other parks and it plays in a little bit."

Despite the upcoming move, Beltran will get the bulk of playing time in right going forward. 

"Carlos has been our right fielder," Girardi said. "My plan is for Carlos to be our right fielder."

Jones, Pirela will be backup options to Yankees starting outfielders

With Ramon Flores getting optioned to the minors Wednesday, the Yankees have just three full-time outfielders on the active roster -- Brett Gardner, Carlos Beltran and Chris Young. Although, Girardi said Garrett Jones and Jose Pirela will be backup options.

“Right now, Garrett Jones is our extra outfielder, and we’ll just go from there,” Girardi said.

Outfielder Carlos Beltran remains out of the Yankees lineup with a sore foot that occurred when he fouled a pitch off of it, giving red-hot Garrett Jones another start in right field Friday. 

Jones will hit eighth as the Yankees maintain their lineup for the second straight game. Jones has hit homers in back-to-back games and driven in five runs.

Plantar fasciitis injury getting better for Yankees' Garrett Jones

Yankees first basmean/right fielder Garrett Jones said the the plantar fasciitis injury in his right foot has mostly subsided, per Jones has been dealing with the issue since spring training.

Jones said he worked out all offseason without an issue, but the condition began to bother him once workouts began this spring. He added this is not the first time he dealt with the injury. He had it a few years ago and played through much worse pain in his left foot.

Jones has been on a roll offensively in his last nine games. He is batting .455 (10 for 22) with three home runs and eight RBI in that span.

Yankees 1B Garrett Jones comes up huge with another HR

Yankees first baseman Garrett Jones came up big at the plate for the second consecutive day. Just a day removed from belting a three-run homer in extras to lift his team past the Mariners, 5-3, Jones broke open a 1-all game with a two-run shot off Seattle starter Taijuan Walker in the fourth inning to give his club the lead for good on Wednesday.

Jones finished 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI in a 3-1 victory. He has homered in back-to-back games and is hitting .258 with three homers, nine RBI and an .292 on-base percentage in 27 games this season.

Garrett Jones lifts Yankees to win with extra-inning home run

Yankees first baseman Garrett Jones played the role of hero on Tuesday, as his three-run homer in the top of the 11th inning broke open a 2-all game and sent New York to a 5-3 win. He finished the game 2 for 3 with a strikeout.

"It feels great, man," Jones said, per "Just seeing the team all smiles and just being able to contribute to the win, it was a battle today. It's just nice to help the team win and get in there and just deliver."

Jones' extra-inning home run off Joe Beimel was his second of the season. Both have come in his last eight appearances.

He is batting .474 (9 for 19) with two home runs, six RBI, four runs, two walks and five strikeouts in his last eight games.

"I'm not trying to do too much; just know what my purpose and spot on the team is going to be and try to do my best at it," Jones said. "Just make the most of it. It's been a transition, but right now, I feel comfortable and have come up with a routine, and just mentally feel in a lot better place in the spot I'm in."

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira gets a breather on Friday

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is getting the night off Friday as he is held out of the lineup against the A's. He had started each of the last 14 games for the Yankees, going 11 for 45 with three home runs in that stretch.

Garrett Jones will get the rare start at first base and bat sixth on Friday. Teixeira will likely be back in the lineup on Saturday, as no injury has been reported.

Yankees infielder Didi Gregorius and outfielder Garrett Jones hit their first home runs of the 2015 season in Friday night's 10-9 loss to the Rangers

Gregorius hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning. He's now hitting .217/.278/.278. Jones went yard with a three-run shot in the eighth inning that trimmed Texas' lead to two runs at the time. 

Jones is now slashing .171/.190/.317.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira not in starting lineup Tuesday vs. Rays

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is being held out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Rays. Teixeira has started nine of the last 10 games for manager Joe Girardi, including each of the last seven. 

Over his last 10 games, Teixeira is hitting .286 with three home runs, three doubles and nine RBI. Garrett Jones is receiving the start at first while catcher Brian McCann hits in the cleanup spot on Tuesday.

Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira gets rare day off Monday vs. Blue Jays

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was held out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. This is just the second time that Teixeira did not start for manager Joe Girardi. 

Teixeira has gotten off to a great start in the power department, slugging nine home runs in his first 24 games. But he's just over .200 on the year and has just seven hits in his last 35 at-bats. 

Garrett Jones was given the start at first base on Monday, and was batting seventh in the lineup.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez out of the lineup Tuesday against Tampa

Yankees third baseman and designated hitter Alex Rodriguez is out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rays, with Garrett Jones taking over the DH role, the team announced.

Rodriguez had played the last four games in a row with just two games off in the first 20 to start the season. He is hitting .254 with five home runs in 63 at-bats this season. Jones is hitting .217 with a triple in 23 at-bats this season.

Garrett Jones gets three hits in Yankees' win

Garrett Jones made the most of the chance to start in right field for the Yankees. Filling in for Carlos Beltran, who was suffering from an illness, Jones went 3 for 4 in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. 

Jones hit his first triple of the year and scored a run. He improved his average to .278.

Carlos Beltran out of Yankees' lineup again on Sunday

Yankees right fielder Carlos Beltran is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day. Beltran missed Saturday's game with an illness, and he's not in the lineup for Sunday's game.

Garrett Jones gets the start in right for the Yankees. He'll bat seventh in the order. 

Catcher Brian McCann is also not in the lineup. JR Murphy will start and bat eighth.

Yankees' Brett Gardner, Alex Rodriguez out of lineup Tuesday

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and designated hitter Alex Rodriguez are not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Gardner is out of the lineup as expected after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch Monday. While he may be able to pinch run or serve as a defensive replacement Tuesday, he's unlikely to bat, the New York Daily News reports. Manager Joe Girardi hopes Gardner's ready to return to the starting lineup by Friday.

Rodriguez made his first start at third base Monday. With both players sidelined, Garrett Jones will bat sixth and DH, and Chris Young will bat seventh and man left field.

"You can't forget (that) it’s a long season," Joe Girardi said, per "When he's going good, you're going to want to keep him in there every day. That's how your guys get fatigued and that's how they end up injuring something in their leg. I have to guard against that. That's why I thought today was a great day to give him off."

The Yankees are underdogs (+110) against the Orioles Tuesday, per
