Joel Peralta: Retiring from baseball
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta has decided to retire from baseball, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 40-year-old never signed on with another club after being designated for assignment by the Cubs in July, and he said Friday that he's "not going to play anymore." Peralta never made an All-Star team but he put together a highly respectable 12-year major league career, posting a 4.03 ERA and 1.16 WHIP while pitching for eight different teams.

Joel Peralta: Elects free agency
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta has elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs last week, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Cubs could not find a trade partner for Peralta, and the reliever decided to become a free agent rather than report to the team's Triple-A club. Peralta posted a 5.93 ERA over 31 appearances out of the Cubs' bullpen this season but has 620 big league appearances under his belt, so he should still draw interest from teams in need of relief help.

Cubs' Joel Peralta: Designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta was designated for assignment Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com reports.

After giving up four earned runs across just four innings with the Cubs, Peralta has been designated for assignment to make room for Adam Warren. Warren, who'd been with the Cubs for much of the season, will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa, where he's started two games and been good for a 4.15 ERA.

Cubs' Joel Peralta: Continues shaky tenure with Cubs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta gave up two runs on three hits -- including a home run -- in 1.2 innings of relief against the Mets on Sunday.

On the plus side, Peralta struck out three and walked none (though he hit a batter). On the negative side, he's done little in his week with the Cubs to indicate the team will trust him in high-leverage situations. In four appearances covering just three innings, Peralta has given up five hits and five runs.

Cubs' Joel Peralta: Has contract selected by Cubs on Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta had his contract selected by the Cubs on Monday.

Peralta will join the Cubs bullpen as they continue to look for a way to boost their relief staff. Peralta had a 5.40 ERA in 26 appearances with the Mariners this season before being designated for assignment, but the Cubs are likely hoping that a change of scenery can bring the best out of Peralta.

Cubs' Joel Peralta: Expected to join Cubs bullpen
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta is expected to join the Cubs' bullpen Monday night, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Cubs inked Peralta to a minor league deal earlier in the month after he was DFA'd by the Mariners. The 40-year-old has made only five appearances at Triple-A Iowa, but he'll come up to provide right-handed depth in the bullpen, with the Cubs slated to send lefty Gerardo Concepcion back to Iowa in his place.

Cubs' Joel Peralta: Signs minor league deal with Cubs on Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

After being designated for assignment by the Mariners on June 2 and subsequently released two days later, Peralta was able to find a new landing spot fairly quickly. The 40-year-old reliever had a good amount of struggles in 23.1 innings with Seattle, amassing a 5.40 ERA and allowing seven home runs, but he did post an excellent 10.8 K/9 during that time. He'll begin with Triple-A Iowa, but if he can keep the ball in the park better going forward, he could join the Cubs bullpen sometime later in the season.

Mariners' Joel Peralta: Designated for assignment Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta was designated for assignment Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Peralta came on to help put out the fire Wednesday in San Diego after starter James Paxton allowed eight runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings. However, Peralta only fanned the flames as he allowed three earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings of work. His ERA on the season ballooned nearly three full runs over the last month, finishing out at 5.40. He'll now be subject to waivers and could have some interest from teams across the league, but the 40-year old reliever is unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact the rest of the season.

Mariners' Joel Peralta: Gives up pair of homers in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta was hit hard for the second night in a row Saturday, allowing two runs on two homers without recording an out against the Angels.

Peralta gave up two runs (and a home run) Friday to the Angels, as well. He's pitched reasonably well this season, and recently the Mariners haven't had a choice but to use him late in games with Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) and Tony Zych (shoulder) on the disabled list. Peralta's 4.70 ERA is ugly, but he has 21 strikeouts in 15.1 innings and an MLB-leading 11 holds. With Benoit due back this week, Peralta could see fewer high-leverage situations.

Mariners' Joel Peralta: Likely taking over eighth-inning role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Scott Servais said Monday that Peralta "will probably be the guy we'll lean on" in the eighth inning with Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) on the DL, Bob Dutton the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

It's unclear who much time Benoit will require on the disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation, but Peralta is slated to take on higher-leverage situations. With more hold opportunities imminent, Peralta will look to parlay his success this season -- two earned runs, eight strikeouts and a .115 batting average against in eight innings -- to the new role.

Mariners' Joel Peralta: Still has manager's confidence
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta gave up game-tying home runs in the eighth inning of each of his last two appearances, but manager Scott Servais said he will continue to give the right-hander the ball in late-inning situations, the Seattle Times reports.

While Servais was supportive, Peralta only pitched the eighth inning of both games because Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) was unavailable. Expect Peralta to be limited to the seventh inning or earlier as long as Benoit is available. And Servais didn't give an open-ended endorsement, either. "We're going to need Peralta," Servais said. "We're going to give him the ball. But when you come in tie games, or one-run lead there late, you've got to be very fine. Mistakes in this league will get you."

Mariners' Joel Peralta: Informed he'll make Opening Day roster
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mariners informed Peralta on Sunday that he'd make the club's Opening Day roster, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The 40-year-old isn't the dependable middle relief option he used to be with the Rays a few seasons ago, but his respectable track record was enough for the Mariners to overlook a rough spring (7.88 ERA, 1.63 WHIP over eight innings). With Steve Cishek and Joaquin Benoit in the fold to handle the closing and setup duties, respectively, don't expect Peralta to see much high-leverage work.

Joel Peralta: Reaches agreement with Mariners
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta and the Mariners have reached agreement on a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.

A moderately effective setup man for the Rays from 2011 to 2014, the 39-year-old Peralta struggled to the tune of a 4.34 ERA over 29 innings with the Dodgers last season. He battled a slew of injuries and will now have to fight for a spot at the back of Seattle's bullpen.

Joel Peralta: Becomes a free agent
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peralta had his team option declined by the Dodgers on Friday, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.

Peralta missed time with various injuries and struggled when he was healthy, posting a 4.34 ERA as his fastball velocity continued to drop below 90 mph (89.4 mph average). He'll be 40 years old by the start of the 2016 season, but he should be able to find a spot in the middle or back of a bullpen in free agency.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled reliever Yimi Garcia from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Dodgers veteran reliever Joel Peralta, who has been out for nearly two months with a pinched nerve in his neck, should be activated off the disabled list by Monday at the latest, per True Blue LA, which is reporting that he coming back to Los Angeles after a rehab assignment.

Peralta will return to the mound having pitched just 5 2/3 innings this season with no runs allowed.

Dodgers RP Joel Peralta not sharp in first rehab outing Thursday
by Jason Lempert | CBS Sports Staff

Dodgers reliever Joel Peralta began his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday. The right-hander struggled in his appearance with Class A Rancho Cucamonga. He was charged with two runs on two hits and one walk in one inning of work. He let the first three batters to reach before getting the next three out to end the inning.

Peralta has been suffering from a pinched nerve in his neck and has been on the disabled list since late-April. He made seven scoreless appearances with the Dodgers before going down with the injury.

The Dodgers have not indicated how many rehab outings Peralta will need before he's able to return to the team.

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Dodgers pitcher Joel Peralta will throw Thursday for the Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, according to the Los Angeles Times

Peralta, who threw a bullpen session this past Saturday, is coming back from a pinched nerve in his neck. He hasn't pitched since April 23. Peralta hasn't allowed a run in the 5 2/3 innings he's seen this year.
