Phillies' Pat Neshek: Takes loss in 11th inning
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Neshek (0-1) was handed the loss after giving up an unearned run in the 11th inning Monday against the Mets. He struck out one, walked one and allowed one hit in his inning of work.

Neshek allowed the first two batters to reach base but then did what he could to get out of the inning. He forced a pop out and a strikeout, but a two-out error by Rhys Hoskins allowed the winning run to score. Neshek still has strong numbers on the season, with a 1.17 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and one save in 7.2 innings.

Phillies' Pat Neshek: Grabs team's second save
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Neshek picked up the save Monday against the Nationals despite a shaky ninth inning in which he allowed a run on two hits, including one homer.

Seranthony Dominguez and David Robertson threw earlier in the game, and Hector Neris had thrown 17 pitches the night before, so manager Gabe Kapler turned to Neshek to face the toughest part of the Nationals' lineup with a two-run lead in the ninth inning. He made things interesting by starting the inning with a Brian Dozier homer and an Anthony Rendon double but eventually shut the door. His usage Tuesday doesn't suggest that he's moved ahead of Dominguez or Robertson in the pecking order, but it does serve as a welcome reminder that Kapler will be creative again this season, so the veteran could certainly stumble into save chances on a semi-regular basis going forward despite not being the team's top option.

Phillies' Pat Neshek: Smooth start to camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Neshek has allowed just one run in 3.1 innings of work this spring, striking out five while walking just one.

Neshek wound up with five saves last season in a bullpen that was in flux throughout the year. The arrival of David Robertson pushes him one spot further from the ninth inning, but he could still wind up with the occasional save if the Phillies stick with unconventional bullpen tactics. He doesn't have a ton of value when not happening to pitch in the ninth, though, as he struck out just 14.9 percent of batters last season and has reached the 60-inning mark just twice in the last 10 years.

Phillies' Pat Neshek: Records fifth save
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Neshek tossed a perfect ninth inning Saturday to pick up his fifth save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Marlins.

It was his first save chance since he blew one Aug. 28, but Neshek's five straight scoreless appearances since then were apparently enough to convince manager Gabe Kapler to entrust him with ninth-inning duty once again. With the Phillies fighting desperately to stay in the NL playoff picture, Neshek might see plenty of high-leverage work down the stretch, but Tommy Hunter and a slew of other relievers could still be in the mix for saves.

Phillies' Pat Neshek: Picks up fourth save
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Neshek threw a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout against the Nationals on Thursday to earn his fourth save of the season.

He sat down Anthony Rendon, Juan Soto and Mark Reynolds in order on 13 pitches to preserve a gem from starter Aaron Nola. It was Neshek's third save since Aug. 7 (six appearances), and with Seranthony Dominguez struggling of late (7.11 ERA, three blown saves in August), Neshek will likely continue to get chances to close out games.
