Chad Billingsley: Career likely over

Billingsley acknowledged that his career is likely over, Michael Perez of the Crescent-News reports.

Billingsley has had numerous surgeries on his elbow and has not been able to ramp up his throwing without feeling some pain. He has not given up on trying to pitch again, but at the moment it looks highly unlikely that he will be able to make a return to the majors.

Billingsley was diagnosed with mild flexor tendinitis in his arm, but there was no structural damage found during tests.

Phillies starting pitcher Chad Billingsley tossed five scoreless innings in his start against the Marlins on Saturday.

Billingsley gave up just four hits and was in command of the game before being pulled after five innings because he was experiencing soreness and tightness in his right elbow. He struck out two batters and gave up just one walk while picking up his second win of the season.

Billingsley (2-3) now has a 5.84 ERA with 15 strikeouts and eight walks in 37 innings of work this season.

The Phillies announced their upcoming rotation plans after placing starting pitcher Aaron Harang (foot) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Adam Morgan will start Friday's series opener against the Braves. He will be followed by Kevin Correia on Saturday and Cole Hamels on Sunday.

Sean O'Sullivan will start in Harang's spot on Monday against the Dodgers. Chad Billingsley, who came off the disabled list Thursday to start against the Brewers, will start Tuesday before the rotation resets.
