Alex Rodriguez: Won't play for remainder of 2016 season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez's publicist said Monday that he does not intend to play for another team this season, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

There had been speculation that Rodriguez was drawing interest from a few teams in the wake of his release by the Yankees, but it does not appear that any of the talk will come to fruition in 2016. However, there remains an outside shot Rodriguez could play before this season comes to a close, and he has yet to say whether he will return next season. Before being released by the Yankees, Rodriguez owned a .200/.247/.351 line.

Alex Rodriguez: Drawing interest from Marlins
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is drawing interest from the Marlins, reports.

"We're putting our list together of options. [Rodriguez] is available, so he will be on that list," Marlins manager Don Mattingly told reporters. "We'll see where that goes." Many expected Rodriguez's career to be over following his release from the Yankees, but Rodriguez was evasive when confronted by reporters about if he had plans to retire. The Marlins have a need for offense after Giancarlo Stanton's injury, and Rodriguez may be the best available at this point, so there is at least some logic to the idea.

Alex Rodriguez: Released by Yankees
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez was officially released by the Yankees on Saturday and he will assume an advisory role within the organization.

Saturday night's game was Rodriguez's last with the Yankees, and likely his last as a professional. He will remain in the organization, as they still owe him around $25 million, but after the 2017 season, he will be free to do something else. Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin were recalled from Triple-A on Saturday as the Yankees continue the youth movement, and prospect Gary Sanchez figures to see the bulk of the playing time at DH going forward.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Collects RBI double, plays third base in final game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with an RBI double during Friday's 6-3 win over the Rays.

In what's expected to be the final game of his MLB career, Rodriguez was able to at least end a tumultuous season on a high note, as the two-bagger marked his first extra-base hit since June 5. Though Rodriguez had previously served as the designated hitter throughout this season, manager Joe Girardi allowed the three-time MVP to come out for the ninth inning at third base, the position he had manned for much of his 13-year tenure with the Yankees. Rodriguez is expected to be formally released by the Yankees on Saturday as the team aims to clear up a roster spot for one of their top prospects in Aaron Judge, but the 41-year-old will still stick around with the organization in an advisory capacity through the end of 2017.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Hitting third Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is in the DH spot and batting third Friday against the Rays, Meredith Marakovits the YES Network reports.

Rodriguez will go up against the right-handed Chris Archer in what's expected to be his final game with the Yankees, and possibly his career. Rodriguez, who's hitting just .199/.247/.348, is 2-for-15 in his career against Archer. However, both of said hits were home runs.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: In lineup Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is in the DH spot while batting fourth against the Red Sox on Thursday, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Rodriguez will be in the lineup for his last game against the Red Sox and at Fenway Park in the cleanup spot. He will face Eduardo Rodriguez for Thursday's game before his final game against the Rays on Friday.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Won't return to lineup until Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez, who is not in the lineup Tuesday, will not return to the order until Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

Although Rodriguez's final game in a Yankee uniform is approaching, manager Joe Girardi remains adamant about giving his younger players some playing time and leaving the veteran on the bench. The Yankees will be facing lefty Drew Pomeranz on Wednesday, but Rodriguez will not be in the lineup on that day, either. Instead, he'll be back for his final game against the Red Sox in Fenway on Thursday when he faces knuckleballer Steven Wright.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Will retire after Aug. 12 game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Yankees announced Sunday that Rodriguez would play his final game with the team Aug. 12 against the Rays before joining the organization in an advisory role through the end of the 2017 season, reports.

Manager Joe Girardi admitted last week that Rodriguez likely wouldn't be utilized much over the final two months of the season while the team looked to make room for younger options, prompting the franchise to reassess the 41-year-old's future with the Yankees while he remained under contract through the remainder of the 2017 campaign. Rodriguez, who is still due approximately $27 million over the remainder of his contract, will be unconditionally released after the Aug. 12 game, but he'll still stick around the organization as an instructor and special advisor through Dec. 31, 2017 while receiving his full payment. The 14-time All-Star has made just seven appearances since July 23, but with his retirement on the horizon, expect Girardi to give Rodriguez at least a few more starts over the next five days to close out his career. Once Rodriguez is out of the picture, the Yankees will proceed with their youth movement and hand most of the at-bats at DH to Gary Sanchez.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Will see reduced role down the stretch
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Joe Girardi acknowledged Tuesday that Rodriguez would likely notice a reduced role over the remainder of the season,'s Wallace Matthews reports. "In maybe the near future, do I see [Rodriguez] getting a ton of at-bats? No, I probably don't because of some of the changes that we're possibly going to make here,'' Girardi said. "We're going to take a look at probably some younger players here a little bit, see if we can add to some of the struggles we've had offensively and see if they can be some big bats in the lineup.''

After Carlos Beltran was traded to the Rangers on Monday, there was some speculation that Rodriguez might earn more frequent starts at DH over the final two months of the season as he pursues 700 career home runs, but it doesn't seem as though Girardi is willing to give the 41-year-old that opportunity. Though Rodriguez came back from a one-year ban to slug 33 homers in 2015, he's been a disaster at the plate throughout this season, slashing just .204/.252/.356 with nine long balls and a career-worst 27.8 percent strikeout rate over 234 plate appearances. In interviews with New York media Tuesday, Rodriguez himself seemed resigned to the reality that the Yankees aren't eager to cater to him while they make room for some of their younger bats, with well-regarded 23-year-old catcher Gary Sanchez being the first of the team's major prospects to join the big club. Rodriguez is under contract through the end of the 2017 season and has more than $20 million remaining on his contract, and with the Yankees seemingly viewing him as a sunk cost at this point, it wouldn't be surprising if the team opted to release him later this season if another move needs to be made in order to bring a prospect onto the 40-man roster.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Could be in line for more playing time
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez could be in line for more regular starts following the trade of Carlos Beltran, the New York Post reports.

The Yankees had slotted Beltran into the DH role frequently, so his departure would appear to create a spot for A-Rod, who has otherwise mostly been relegated to bench duty of late. Manager Joe Girardi was noncommittal about a regular role for the 41-year-old, but the situation may become clearer when the Yankees return to an AL park Wednesday.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Not in lineup Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup for Friday's tilt with Tampa Bay, Mark Feinsand of NY Daily News reports.

Rodriguez will miss a sixth straight game as Carlos Beltran continues to reserve DH duties. Rodriguez has not done much to persuade Joe Girardi to put his name in the lineup as he's gone 4-for-31 (.129) in 11 games this month.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Remains out of lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Houston.

Tuesday marks Rodriguez's fourth consecutive day out of the lineup despite being listed as healthy. His well-documented struggles at the dish have seeped into the second half of the season and he was even left out of the lineup when the Yankees faced a lefty on Monday. He figures to return to the lineup at some point in the near future, but it's difficult to imagine Rodriguez regaining an everyday role barring a significant turnaround at the plate.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Sits for second straight game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.

Rodriguez will be held out for a second straight day while he trudges through a miserable July, during which he's gone 4-for-31 (.129 average) with one homer and two RBI. Carlos Beltran will assume DH duties Sunday.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Out of Saturday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup Saturday against the Giants, Newsday's Steven Marcus reports.

The Yankees will deploy Carlos Beltran at DH and Aaron Hicks in right field, giving Rodriguez the day off against righty Johnny Cueto. He is hitting just .206/.256/.364 on the season and has failed to approach last season's surprising bounce-back campaign.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Out of lineup Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Mark Teixeira's return to the lineup allows manager Joe Girardi to give Carlos Beltran a day at DH and give Rodriguez the day off entirely. Rodriguez is just 2-for-16 since returning from the All-Star break, and although one of those hits was a home run, he is still struggling to make contact and get on base.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Homers in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's win against the Orioles.

With the homer, A-Rod notched just his second RBI of the month. The veteran slugger doesn't have a multi-hit game in July yet and has seen his average sag to .216. He's had an incredible career, but at this point, it looks like the 14-time All-Star and three-time MVP is a dim shadow of his former self.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Will take grounders at first base during All-Star break
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

In an attempt to find more playing time in the second half, Rodriguez plans to take grounders at first base during the All-Star break, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.

Rodriguez was out of the lineup nine of the last 10 games, only compiling nine plate appearances during that stretch. Chase Headley has been getting the majority of starts at third base while Carlos Beltran has been the everyday designated hitter. Rodriguez is hitting .244/.348/.423 in 156 at-bats in 2016.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Likely out through the weekend
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

With Carlos Beltran expected to DH through the weekend, Rodriguez will likely be held out of the lineup Saturday and Sunday, the Westchester Journal News reports.

Beltran is dealing with some lingering soreness in his hamstring and manager Joe Girardi is hesitant to put the 39-year-old back in the field, leaving A-Rod without a spot in the lineup. Rodriguez was seeing his playing time against right-handers scale back anyway, as his season-long struggles at the plate have persisted with a .220/.256/.382 slash line.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Out of lineup Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is not in Friday's lineup against the Indians, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.

Rodriguez will spend his third consecutive game on the bench, and this is now his fifth time out of the lineup in the past seven games. Carlos Beltran is once again slotted into the DH role, with Rob Refsnyder taking over in right.

Yankees' Alex Rodriguez: Not in Thursday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodriguez is out of the lineup against the Indians on Thursday.

Rodriguez remains out of the lineup, as this will be his fourth day on the bench out of the last six contests, including the second game in a row. Carlos Beltran will DH again for the second consecutive game as the club faces Trevor Bauer and the Indians.
