In the Eye On Baseball Top 10s, here's what we do: rank players according to criteria. Those criteria change depending upon week and whim, but the Top 10s will always be informed by some angle or another, painfully contrived or otherwise.
And that brings us to this week's guiding query: Who have been the best position players and pitchers in the AL Central thus far in 2014?
As you're no doubt aware, we've been using this space to name the top performers in each of MLB's six divisions. With the AL East and NL East out of the way, we're now ready for the AL Central.
So as the question above implies, these are AL Central hitters and hurlers who are producing the most value in 2014. We list them with no regard for their pre-2014 histories and no regard for whether or not these performances are sustainable. As for position players, defense and base-running are very much part of the calculus. It's not about just the bat.
You may encounter a reliever or three, but the bar for relievers is much higher than it is for starters, since a merely good starter provides more worth than even the best reliever (that's a function of workload and all that).
So let us now recite baseball names for the dual purposes of SEO and making you angry. Feel free to brandish your incorrect opinions and make idle threats in the comments section.
