Braves' Max Fried: Promoted to majors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fried was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

The pitching prospect will join the big club for the first time all season after impressing in is first three minor-league starts (one with Double-A Mississippi and two with Triple-A Gwinnett). Fried will likely settle into a long relief role during his time with the big club, though he could also be an option to spot start should an opportunity arise. Miguel Socolovich was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the roster for Fried.

Braves' Miguel Socolovich: Designated for assignment Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Socolovich was designated for assignment by the Braves on Tuesday.

Socolovich was tagged for three runs on three hits and a walk in his only appearance since being promoted to the majors over the weekend, so the Braves decided to cast him off their 40-man roster for the second time this season. He'll report to Triple-A Gwinnett if he clears waivers again. Max Fried was recalled in a corresponding move to take his place on the active roster.

Braves' Mike Soroka: First career shutout
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Soroka threw his first career shutout Monday for Triple-A Gwinnett, striking out four while allowing three hits and three walks over seven frames at Rochester.

Soroka's minor-league career has been littered with notable achievements, typically serving as one of the youngest and best pitchers in his league, but this performance was a first for the 20-year-old righty. He now sports a 1.99 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB in 22.2 innings and leads all International League pitchers with a 69 percent groundball rate. While he is not on the 40-man roster, Soroka appears to be close to ready for a promotion to the big-league rotation, perhaps as soon as an opening lines up with his pitching schedule.

Braves' Johan Camargo: Headed for utility role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Camargo will be used in a utility role moving forward, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The 24-year-old headed into spring training atop the depth chart at third base, but an oblique injury last month gave Ryan Flaherty an opportunity to seize that job, and now the Braves plan to give Jose Bautista a look at the hot corner as well. Camargo put up a solid .783 OPS in 82 games as a rookie last year, but his minor-league numbers don't suggest he possesses a starter-quality bat, and a role off the bench likely suits him better in the long run.

Braves' Sam Freeman: Will have workload scaled back
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Freeman will have his usage scaled back after pitching in 14 of the Braves' first 21 games this season, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports.

He's only thrown 9.2 innings in those appearances, filling the role of lefty specialist, but fatigue is still beginning to show -- Freeman's been charged with six runs (five earned) in just one-third of an inning over his last two games including a rough outing Monday, and his 8:10 K:BB on the season is very poor. The Braves do have other southpaw relievers available, namely A.J. Minter and Jesse Biddle, so expect Freeman to get some time to rest and recover before manager Brian Snitker calls his name again.
