Braves' Brandon McCarthy: Sent to Braves in five player trade
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

McCarthy was traded to the Braves along with Scott Kazmir (hip), Adrian Gonzalez (back), Charlie Culberson and cash in exchange for Matt Kemp on Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

McCarthy made just 19 appearances (16 starts) last season due to injuries and a crowded rotation in Los Angeles, posting a 3.98 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 92.2 innings of work. Injuries have gotten the best of the veteran hurler in recent years -- he's registered just 155.2 innings over the past three seasons -- but he should factor into the Braves' rotation next season so long as he's healthy.

Braves' Scott Kazmir: Sent to Braves
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kazmir (hip) was traded to the Braves along with Adrian Gonzalez (back), Brandon McCarthy, Charlie Culberson and cash in exchange for Matt Kemp on Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Kazmir didn't appear in a game for the Dodgers in 2017 while dealing with a recurring hip injury, though he ended up making a few rehab appearances with Triple-A Rancho Cucamonga towards the end of the season. Assuming he's healthy heading into next season, he should compete for a rotation spot, though his recent injury issues could ultimately prompt the Braves to switch him to a long-relief role. He posted a 4.56 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 26 starts for the Dodgers in 2016.

Braves' Charlie Culberson: Traded to Braves in five player deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Culberson was traded to the Braves from the Dodgers along with Scott Kazmir (hip), Adrian Gonzalez (back), Brandon McCarthy and cash in exchange for Matt Kemp on Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Culberson played in just 15 regular-season games last season, though he garnered 10 playoff appearances due to an injury to Corey Seager and hit an impressive .500/.471/.938 in the process. He's appeared in just 49 major-league games over the past three seasons, hitting .275/.301/.363 over that stretch, but he should be in line for some more opportunities next season as a utility man for the Braves.

Braves' Adrian Gonzalez: Dished to Braves, designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gonzalez (back) was traded to the Braves along with Scott Kazmir (hip), Brandon McCarthy, Charlie Culberson and cash in exchange for Matt Kemp on Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Following the deal, Gonzalez was designated for assignment, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Gonzalez, who is still owed $21 million next season, is expected to clear waivers and become a free agent within the next week, which explains why he agreed to waive his no-trade clause. The 35-year-old struggled to stay healthy in 2017, playing in just 71 games due to elbow and back issues. When he did play, the veteran first baseman failed to impress, hitting just .242/.287/.355 with three home runs. Gonzalez will look to catch on with another team and turn things around in 2018, though his days as a reliable fantasy option may be over.

Braves' Anyelo Gomez: Goes to Braves in Rule 5 draft
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gomez was selected by the Braves with the seventh pick in the Rule 5 draft Thursday.

A 24-year-old righty, Gomez logged 38.2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A for the Yankees organization last season, so he is relatively close to big-league ready. While he may eventually profile in the late innings, Gomez will likely be deployed in low-leverage spots in 2018 while the Braves attempt to keep him on the active roster all season in order to retain his rights. He logged a 1.92 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 70.1 innings across four levels of the minors last season.
