Orioles' Caleb Joseph: Slated for promotion Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Orioles plan to recall Joseph from Triple-A Norfolk prior to Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Joseph will assume the active roster spot of fellow backstop Chance Sisco (illness), who was surprisingly optioned to Norfolk following the Orioles' 10-4 victory over the Marlins on Sunday. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that the illness was the "principal" factor behind Sisco's demotion, so Joseph could end up heading back to Norfolk once Sisco is deemed fully healthy. While he's up with the big club, Joseph will likely share time behind the plate with Austin Wynns.

Orioles' Colby Rasmus: Should rejoin club 'shortly'
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Sunday that Rasmus (hip) will be an option for the big club "shortly," Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

While the skipper didn't give a target date for Rasmus' return from the 60-day disabled list, the outfielder's 20-day rehab window will end Wednesday, making an activation later this week a good possibility. After going hitless in his first four rehab appearances, Rasmus has caught fire at the plate of late for High-A Frederick, recording 11 hits in 29 at-bats over his last nine contests. Once he's formally reinstated, Rasmus will likely fill the strong side of a platoon in right field.

Orioles' Trey Mancini: In midst of extended slump
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mancini went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Orioles' 10-4 win over the Marlins.

Mancini's third-inning single marked the only time during the three-game series that he reached base. Since posting back-to-back two-hit games on May 12 and 13, Mancini is hitting just .150/.229/.234, with the downturn in performance costing him his leadoff role. The 26-year-old could probably benefit from a brief stint in the minors to regain some confidence at the plate, but the Orioles' lack of appealing alternatives in the outfield or at first base will likely result in Mancini working through his struggles in an everyday role with the big club.

Orioles' Chris Davis: Could rejoin lineup soon
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said that Davis could rejoin the Baltimore lineup at some point during the club's three-game series with the Nationals that begins Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

After hitting .150 with a 37.6 percent strikeout rate over his first 57 appearances of the season, Davis has been on the bench for the past five games while he looks to retool his swing. The first baseman has been working extensively with hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh and vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson in the batting cage prior to games, but it's unclear if those sessions have actually been productive for Davis. With more than $80 million remaining on Davis' contract, the Orioles aren't willing to give up on him just yet, so expect the slugger to gradually work his way back into the lineup whether he deserves it or not.

Orioles' Jace Peterson: Drives in four
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI during Sunday's tilt with Miami.

Peterson struck in the second inning with a two-run double, followed by a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead. Despite collecting four RBI, Peterson is slashing a disappointing .196/.320/.308 with one homer and 15 RBI through 39 games this season.
