Angels' Yunel Escobar: Participating in baseball activities
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Escobar (oblique) worked out on the field and hit in the batting cage Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Escobar has clearly made notable progress since suffering a rehab setback earlier this month, but according to manager Mike Scioscia, he still remains without a firm timeline for return. Luis Valbuena will continue to hold down third base in his absence.

Angels' Brandon Phillips: Back in action Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Phillips (back) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Indians, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Phillips sat out the last two games to rest his sore back, but he is ready to resume his role as the Angels' starting second baseman. Phillips will hit leadoff Tuesday against Indians starter Mike Clevinger.

Angels' Matt Shoemaker: Resumes throwing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Shoemaker threw Tuesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his forearm Aug. 8, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Shoemaker likely did not do much more than play catch Tuesday, but his activity indicates his recovery is going as planned. Shoemaker hopes to be back in pitching form by late October, so he will not pitch again during the regular season, and will not even have a chance to pitch again in 2017 unless the Angels reach the World Series. Barring any setbacks though, it appears Shoemaker should be back at 100 percent well in advance of spring training next year.

Angels' Andrew Heaney: No timetable for return to action
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Heaney (shoulder) has resumed playing catch off flat ground, but is without an official timetable for returning, the Associated Press reports.

The Angels ended up skipping Heaney's turn in the rotation last week after the lefty came out of his Sept. 9 start with a shoulder impingement, and it looks like he could be at risk of missing another outing, given the limited progress in his recovery to date. Manager Mike Scioscia turned to reliever Bud Norris to take Heaney's spot in the rotation last time out, and it appears that another bullpen game could be on tap for the Angels when a fifth starter is next required Saturday against the Astros.

Angels' Mike Trout: Homers in loss Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Trout led off and went 1-for-2 with a walk, a home run and a pair of RBI in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

The slugging outfielder has been filling in for Brandon Phillips (back) atop the Halos' lineup over the past couple of games, but unlike traditional leadoff hitters, he took matters into his own hands and drove himself in with his 29th homer of the season. Trout's six-week absence due to a thumb injury derailed what could have been a career-best season, as his 1.090 OPS leads all major-league hitters.
