Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Expected to throw against Brewers on Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ohtani (ankle, elbow) is set to face Milwaukee on Saturday during the Angels' Cactus League contest, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

Ohtani continues to work his way back from a Grade 1 UCL sprain and an ankle procedure he underwent in October. The right-hander is in line to throw a couple innings against the Brewers during his debut, and he should get an opportunity to DH in the following days. Recently, Ohtani was able to throw a live batting practice session as well as receive some time of his own in the batters' box, which signals another step forward in his return to full health.

Angels' Chris Young: Suffers calf injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Young sustained a Grade 1 right calf strain while participating in running drills Tuesday. He will remain in a walking boot for the next week and expects to return in roughly 10 days, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports.

Young recently agreed to a one-year deal with the club this past weekend. It doesn't appear as though this injury should signal any major concern over Young's status heading into this season, but it will be beneficial if he's able to avoid any sort of setback and get comfortable with his new team prior to Opening Day. Young will be utilized as a backup outfielder for the Angels in 2018 after slashing .235/.322/.387 with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 90 games a season ago for Boston.

Angels' Alex Meyer: Shifted to 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Meyer (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

This isn't all too surprising, as Meyer is highly unlikely to pitch at all during the 2018 season as he continues to work his way back from shoulder surgery. The move clears a roster spot for Jabari Blash, who was acquired from the Yankees via trade Wednesday.

Angels' Jabari Blash: Sent to Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blash was traded to the Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Blash was designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier in the week in order to clear a roster spot for the recently acquired Brandon Drury. With this trade, however, he'll join the Angels' 40-man roster. Blash, who hit .213/.333/.341 in 61 games with the Padres last season, should get a chance to compete for a role as the team's fourth outfielder during camp. If he impresses in spring, he could open the season on the short side of a platoon with Kohl Calhoun in right field, as he hit a respectable .290/.380/.478 in 79 plate appearances against southpaws in 2017.

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Throws live batting practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Heaney (shoulder) threw live batting practice Wednesday, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Heaney had a minor shoulder injury to end the 2017 season but was expected to be healthy entering spring training. It looks like he's good to go and can safely be expected to be a member of the Angels' rotation this season. The 26-year-old lefty struggled to a 7.06 ERA in 21.2 innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery last season, so expectations should be low, but with good health he has a chance of bouncing back to somewhere close to his form from 2015, when he put up a 3.49 ERA (with a 4.41 xFIP) over 105.2 innings.
