Angels' Alex Meyer: Shifted to 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Meyer (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

This isn't all too surprising, as Meyer is highly unlikely to pitch at all during the 2018 season as he continues to work his way back from shoulder surgery. The move clears a roster spot for Jabari Blash, who was acquired from the Yankees via trade Wednesday.

Angels' Jabari Blash: Sent to Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Blash was traded to the Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Blash was designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier in the week in order to clear a roster spot for the recently acquired Brandon Drury. With this trade, however, he'll join the Angels' 40-man roster. Blash, who hit .213/.333/.341 in 61 games with the Padres last season, should get a chance to compete for a role as the team's fourth outfielder during camp. If he impresses in spring, he could open the season on the short side of a platoon with Kohl Calhoun in right field, as he hit a respectable .290/.380/.478 in 79 plate appearances against southpaws in 2017.

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Throws live batting practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Heaney (shoulder) threw live batting practice Wednesday, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Heaney had a minor shoulder injury to end the 2017 season but was expected to be healthy entering spring training. It looks like he's good to go and can safely be expected to be a member of the Angels' rotation this season. The 26-year-old lefty struggled to a 7.06 ERA in 21.2 innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery last season, so expectations should be low, but with good health he has a chance of bouncing back to somewhere close to his form from 2015, when he put up a 3.49 ERA (with a 4.41 xFIP) over 105.2 innings.

Angels' Jahmai Jones: Getting reps at second base?
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones may get reps at second base this spring, Josh Mayhood of Halos Heaven reports.

Jones grabbed an infielder's glove for some workouts Wednesday morning, and when Rex Clevinger of Halos Heaven asked him why he needed that glove in addition to his outfield mitt, Jones replied that he might be playing some second base. A move to second base actually would make a lot of sense for Jones, who is perhaps the best athlete in the Angels' system, but at 6-foot, 215 pounds, he is built like a second baseman and his plus speed may tick down in the coming years, which would make him less of an asset in the outfield. Additionally, the Angels' other elite prospects, Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh, play the outfield, and the team already has plenty of depth there at the big-league level. A move to second base would boost Jones' dynasty-league value, as it would make it more likely that he could break through as an everyday player. After hitting .302/.368/.488 in 41 games at High-A last year, Jones might be ticketed for Double-A to begin the 2018 campaign.

Angels' JC Ramirez: Continues throwing Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ramirez threw live batting practice Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

This marked the first time that Ramirez has faced batters since undergoing surgery to repair his UCL at the latter end of last season. He threw the equivalent of about two innings during Tuesday's workout. Afterwards, he reported that his arm felt good and that he's been pleased with his pitch location over spring training thus far. Ramirez is scheduled to pitch in the Angels' first game of the Cactus League on March 1.
