Yankees' CC Sabathia: Undergoes minor knee procedure
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sabathia underwent surgery Thursday to clean up his right knee, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Cashman added that this was a repeat procedure to the surgery Sabathia underwent last offseason. There shouldn't be any concern over his status heading into the 2019 campaign, as Sabathia was fully operational by the time spring training came around this past year. For the 38-year-old, the looming question is whether he will return to the Bronx for an 11th season or if he will be wearing a different uniform come the spring. Across 29 regular-season starts in 2018, he posted a 3.65 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 140 strikeouts in 153 innings.

Yankees' Didi Gregorius: Requires Tommy John surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gregorius suffered a right elbow injury during the ALDS against the Red Sox and an MRI on Thursday revealed that he will require Tommy John surgery. Manager Aaron Boone said he anticipates Gregorius returning "at some point during [next] season," though he added it's "realistic" that the shortstop will be available for the "bulk" of the 2019 campaign, Marc Carig of The Athletic reports.

It appears as though Gregorius felt the injury occur during Game 1 or 2 of the ALDS in Boston while making a throw, and played through the injury the rest of the series. Thursday's MRI showed a tear in the UCL and will warrant Tommy John surgery, but fortunately the timetable for rehab is generally a great deal shorter for position players than it is for pitchers. That will make it possible for the shortstop to return to the field next year, though Boone added that a concrete timetable is unknown at this point. Gregorius is expected to undergo the surgery next week.

Yankees' Miguel Andujar: On bench for Game 4
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Andujar is not in the lineup for Game 4 of the ALDS against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Andujar has committed 15 errors this season, so manager Aaron Boone will go with the surer glove in Neil Walker -- who also happens to be a switch hitter -- for Tuesday's potentially decisive contest. While the rookie struggled on defense this season, he hit .297/.328/.527 with 27 homers and 92 RBI through 149 games, so he'll be one of Boone's top options off the bench should an opportunity arise.

Yankees' Andrew McCutchen: Sits for Game 4
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

McCutchen is not in the lineup for Game 4 of the ALDS against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

McCutchen will give way to lefty-hitting Brett Gardner in left field for Tuesday's potentially decisive game with right-hander Rick Porcello toeing the rubber for the Red Sox. The former NL MVP is just 2-for-14 through the first three games of the series. He'll be available off the bench if needed.

Yankees' Aaron Hicks: Returns to lineup for Game 4
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hicks (hamstring) is starting in center field and batting leadoff in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Hicks exited Game 1 with hamstring tightness, but he's been cleared to rejoin the starting nine after sitting out the previous two games. The outfielder will face Rick Porcello, against whom he is just 4-for-32 (.125) in his career.
