Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Starts at second base against Tigers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Torres (elbow) will take the field at second base against Detroit on Friday for the club's Grapefruit League opener.

Though it was expected that Torres would be 100 percent heading into spring games following Tommy John surgery last June, it's a good sign to see him thrust right into the fray for the Yankees' opener. Last week, manager Aaron Boone said that Torres would be a "full go" for Grapefruit League and the 21-year-old stated that he was completely healthy at the beginning of February. Torres will be competing for the starting job at the keystone this spring.

Yankees' Clint Frazier: Likely to begin 2018 at Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Frazier is likely headed to Triple-A to begin 2018, Brendan Kuty of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

If the Yankees' five outfielders ahead of him on the organizational depth chart are healthy at the end of spring training, Frazier will get everyday at-bats as a key part of the lineup at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Frazier spent time this offseason adjusting his swing, attempting to fix an exaggerated loading mechanism to make more effective use of his bat speed. If injuries create an opportunity for him with the Yankees this season, Frazier may be limited to playing time on the small side of a platoon.

Yankees' Brandon Drury: Altered swing in offseason
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Drury said he made changes to his swing this offseason in an attempt to hit more home-runs, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.

Drury hit 37 doubles last season while swatting 13 homers in 135 games for the Diamondbacks. With his retooled approach, the 25-year-old is hoping to turn some of those two-baggers into homers. It should help playing half of his games in hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. Drury's performance in Grapefruit League play should offer more insight into whether his adjustments are paying off.

Yankees' Aaron Judge: Could play in Grapefruit League next week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Judge (shoulder) will sit out the first week of Grapefruit League games but could return to the field around the beginning of March, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

In an expected move, manager Aaron Boone said that the team will hold Judge out for the beginning of the spring season while he eases back into the swing of things following arthroscopic surgery in November. The outfielder was able to partake in batting practice earlier this week and appears to be fully healthy, but you can't blame the Yankees for exhibiting extreme caution with their superstar. Expect him to ramp up his activity throughout the course of the spring.

Yankees' Miguel Andujar: Opening Day role less certain
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Andujar may be given more time to develop in the minors after the Yankees acquired Brandon Drury from the Diamondbacks, Jack Curry of YES network reports.

Prior to the Drury acquisition, Andujar looked like the favorite to start the season as the Yankees' third baseman, but that looks less likely now. General manager Brian Cashman called Drury the "strong favorite" to start at third. Andujar is just 22 and has only played in 58 games at the Triple-A level, so more development time makes some sense, though he did hit .317/.364/.502 in those 58 games. Even if Andujar starts the year in the minors, it likely won't take long before he earns a major-league role, especially since Drury is more of a role player and not someone good enough to block a potential star like Andujar for long.
