Yankees' Reiver Sanmartin: Traded to Yankees
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sanmartin was traded to the Yankees on Monday for Ronald Herrera.

A 21-year-old 6-foot-2 lefty, Sanmartin has not pitched above Low-A, but has accumulated a 2.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 137.2 professional innings. The Yankees have a knack for targeting pitchers in trades and then unlocking something that allows the pitcher to reach another level than previously believed possible, so it's worth keeping an eye on what Sanmartin does in 2018.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sears and Juan Then were traded to the Yankees from Seattle in exchange for Nick Rumbelow, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The 21-year-old pitcher has always flashed high-strikeout potential, as he led all of Division I baseball with 142 strikeouts in 95.1 innings during his junior season at The Citadel before turning pro.

Yankees' Chad Green: Will enter spring training as starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

General manager Brian Cashman said Green will enter spring training as a starting pitcher, Bryan Hoch of reports.

Cashman noted that a return to the bullpen would be a fallback option for Green, who posted a remarkable 1.83 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 103:17 K:BB across 69 innings while serving primarily as a reliever in 2017. The 26-year-old has flashed potential as a starter in the past -- posting a 1.52 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 100:21 K:BB in 16 starts (94.2 innings) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2016 -- though he's yet to put it together in the majors, posting a 6.10 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in nine big-league starts. His role for 2018 will likely be determined in spring training.

Yankees' Clint Frazier: Viewed as depth piece in 2018
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

General manager Brian Cashman said Frazier is basically blocked at the big-league level next season, Brendan Kuty of reports.

The Yankees seem set on using Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge as their everyday outfielders, with veteran Jacoby Ellsbury working as the reserve, leaving Frazier as the odd man out. He appeared in 39 games for the Yankees last season thanks to injuries; while he flashed some of his high upside, he finished the year with an unremarkable .231/.268/.448 line and 43 strikeouts in 142 plate appearances. He's still viewed as a big part of the Yankees' future, but for now, it appears he'll continue sharpening his skills in the minors while serving as a glorified depth piece.
