Phillies' Scott Kingery: Earns invite to spring training
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Phillies invited Kingery to spring training, Stephen Gross of The Morning Call reports.

Kingery split the 2017 season between the Double- and Triple-A level and more than held his own at the latter destination with Lehigh Valley after receiving a promotion in late June. During 63 games in the International League, he slashed .294/.337/.449 with eight home runs, 21 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Looking ahead, Kingery could very well snag a spot on the Opening Day roster, as the current competition at the keystone for Philadelphia isn't terribly challenging, with Cesar Hernandez being the lone man with major-league experience at the position. Even in the event in which Kingery heads back down to Lehigh Valley for the start of the 2018 campaign, expect to see him playing in the big leagues sooner rather than later.

Phillies' Cesar Hernandez: Avoids arbitration with Phillies
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hernandez agreed to a one-year, $5.1 million deal with the Phillies on Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

This is a healthy raise over the $2.55 million he received in his first year of arbitration. Top prospect Scott Kingery is nearly big-league ready, so Hernandez may be moved to a utility role, or possibly third base at some point this season, which makes him a bit riskier for fantasy than he was last year. That said, Hernandez was worth 3.3 wins last season according to FanGraphs, so if he is hitting, the Phillies should be able to find room for him.

Phillies' Maikel Franco: Avoids arbitration with Phillies
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Franco agreed to a one-year, $2.95 million deal with the Phillies on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

This is Franco's first offseason as an arbitration-eligible player. He is coming off a pretty brutal season (.230/.281/.409) where he finished with a negative-0.5 fWAR. Franco should still serve as the Phillies' everyday third baseman in the early going, but he could start to lose out on at-bats if he doesn't show significant improvement in April and May.

Phillies' Cameron Rupp: Avoids arbitration
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rupp agreed to a one-year, $2.05 million contract with the Phillies on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Matt Gelb of the Philly Inquirer reports.

Rupp slashed .217/.299/.417 with 14 home runs and 34 RBI in 88 games for the Phillies last season. The catcher will likely take on a reserve role in 2018, as Jorge Alfaro is assumed to hold down the starting spot. With Andrew Knapp also on the roster, Rupp may receive even less playing time, but that will depend on new manager Gabe Kapler's stance on keeping two or three active catchers. For fantasy purposes, Rupp is unlikely to make much of an impact barring an injury to Alfaro, and could be competing for a roster spot come spring training.
