Pirates' Jung Ho Kang: Granted work visa Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kang (suspension) received a U.S. work visa Thursday and hopes to return to the Pirates soon, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.

This is a step in the right direction for Kang, as he'll now be able to actually get back onto American soil to attempt a comeback. The infielder still has a number of off-field issues looming over him, which could keep him off the field longer if he does return to Pittsburgh. No word has come forth as to how close he is to returning to action. Colin Moran and David Freese will play third base in the meantime.

Pirates' Nick Kingham: Could get Sunday's start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kingham is no longer listed as Triple-A Indianapolis' scheduled starter for Saturday, suggesting he could be recalled to take the hill Sunday for the Pirates against the Cardinals, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

The Pirates' doubleheader Wednesday with the Tigers created a stretch of six games in five days, so Pittsburgh will require a spot starter Sunday to keep each member of the five-man rotation on his normal rest. It looks like the decision on Sunday's starter will most likely come down to Kingham or long reliever Tyler Glasnow, who has already covered three-plus innings out of the bullpen on two occasions this season. Glasnow largely struggled in his 13 starts with the big club in 2017, so the Pirates could be inclined to give Kingham a spin Sunday in what would mark his major-league debut. The 26-year-old has been stellar through his first four starts at Triple-A this season, compiling a 1.59 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB in 22.2 innings.

Pirates' Jordy Mercer: Not in Thursday's lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mercer is out of the lineup against the Pirates on Thursday.

Mercer will occupy a seat on the bench after going 3-for-10 with one run scored over both games of Wednesday's doubleheader. In his place, Sean Rodriguez will start at shortstop and bat eighth.

Pirates' Jose Osuna: Homers in season debut against Detroit
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Osuna hit his first homer as part of a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored and three RBI Wednesday against Detroit.

Osuna made the most out of his time as the Pirates 26th man for Wednesday's doubleheader. Expect him to be optioned back to Triple-A before Thursday's series finale, but Osuna may not be far from a call-up. He owns a healthy .937 OPS with six doubles and a home run in 13 games for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates' Chad Kuhl: Nabs third win over Tigers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhl (3-1) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over six innings to pick up the win Wednesday against the Tigers.

After failing to reach the mark in each of his first three starts, Kuhl now has quality starts in each of his past two outings. Kuhl was touched up for a homer by Leonys Martin in the fourth inning, but otherwise he was clean, able to avoid jams by finding strikeouts when necessary. He induced 16 swinging strikes, including a whopping seven on his slider, which he threw 26 times. That's the nastiness that earned Kuhl a chance in Pittsburgh's rotation, and what makes the 25-year-old worth watching as the season proceeds.
