Padres' Shane Peterson: Shifts to minors camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Peterson was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday.

After signing a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training in December, Peterson faced an uphill battle at cracking the Padres' Opening Day roster. The veteran outfielder posted a .400 OBP in his numerous Cactus League appearances, but it ultimately wasn't enough to play his way onto the big-league roster, as the Padres are probably better served giving some of their younger outfielders an opportunity at the big-league level.

Padres' Bryan Mitchell: Feels fine Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mitchell (neck) will throw in an intrasquad game Sunday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Mitchell was scratched from his Cactus League start Saturday after experiencing some neck stiffness during warmups. Mitchell reported that he simply slept on his neck wrong Friday night and is now feeling fine. He'll be a key component in the Padres' rotation this upcoming season.

Padres' Bryan Mitchell: Scratched with stiff neck
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mitchell was scratched from Saturday's spring game due to a stiff neck, AJ Cassavell of reports.

Robbie Erlin will take the ball in his place. The severity of the issue remains unclear at this point, but more will hopefully be known following the conclusion of Saturday's game. Mitchell should be considered day-to-day in the meantime.

Padres' Franchy Cordero: Could return early next week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Padres are hopeful that Cordero (groin) can return to the lineup early next week, AJ Cassavell of reports.

While the team hopes to have Cordero in the lineup Tuesday, Cassavell speculates that Wednesday or Thursday would be more likely. The toolsy outfielder is hitting .343 with two home runs in 35 spring at-bats, but also has 13 strikeouts over that span. He is still competing with Jose Pirela and Hunter Renfroe for the starting outfield spot next to Manuel Margot and Wil Myers.

Padres' Franchy Cordero: Suffers groin injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cordero is being considered day-to-day after experiencing tightness in his groin, AJ Cassavell of reports.

It is unclear when Cordero sustained the injury, as he didn't participate in Friday's spring training loss to the Royals. Manager Andy Green said that he is unsure of the length of time his outfielder will miss. This is poor timing for the 24-year-old as he is currently involved in a heated race for the Padres' starting left field job with Jose Pirela, Hunter Renfroe and Travis Jankowski. Cordero is slashing a healthy .343/.465/.714 in 42 plate appearances, but he will have to return to action soon or run the risk of losing the position battle by default.
