Giants' Eduardo Nunez: On his way to Boston
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nunez has been traded to the Red Sox on Tuesday in exchange for two minor-league pitchers, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

The Red Sox have been searching for a solution at third base all season and now seem to have improved at the hot corner with the recent promotion of top prospect Rafael Devers and the acquisition of Nunez, who projects to see playing time at both third base and shortstop at times. Nunez slashed .307/.331/.413 with four home runs and 17 stolen bases in 75 games with the Giants this season.

Giants' Justin Ruggiano: Granted release Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ruggiano opted out of his minor-league deal with the Giants and will become a free agent, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Ruggiano struggled in his 63 plate appearances with the Giants this season (.217 average) and was subsequently designated for assignment in early June. The 35-year-old initially accepted his assignment to Triple-A but has ultimately decided to opt out of his deal. He'll look to pick up with another organization if possible.

Giants' Orlando Calixte: Heads back to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Calixte was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

The Giants wanted more bullpen depth for the remainder of their series with the Pirates, so Calixte will be replaced by Chris Stratton on the active roster. The utility man went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his most recent cup of coffee with San Francisco, and he figures to be on the shuttle for the rest of the season.

Giants' Chris Stratton: Returns to big leagues
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stratton was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

The right-hander impressed in his last two starts with the River Cats, so he'll return to the majors to replace utility man Orlando Calixte on the active roster. Stratton will likely fill a long-relief role while he's up in the majors, although he could make a spot start if Johnny Cueto (finger) is unable to make his next scheduled start.

Giants' Buster Posey: Drives in two Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Posey went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in Monday's 10-3 loss to the Pirates.

The All-Star backstop was the lone bright spot -- as he has been all season -- in the Giants' lineup in a blowout loss to Pittsburgh. His 43 RBI are a little low due to the San Francisco's constant struggle to get men on base in front of him, but Posey's .321/.403/.490 slash line through 88 games is elite for his position.
