Rangers' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Makes first start at catcher
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kiner-Falefa started at catcher and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Royals.

Kiner-Falefa made his first start at catcher in the majors, oddly enough catching hyphenated starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx and guiding the starter through 6.2 strong innings. The Royals attempted to steal bases twice off the Rangers' new backup catcher, who successfully caught Hunter Dozier for the game's final out. That was Dozier's first attempted steal as a major leaguer, so Kiner-Falefa was clearly being tested. The 23-year-old has shown the Rangers enough that they'd like to see what he can do with more exposure to MLB, so they've creatively found a way to keep him around.

Rangers' Chris Martin: Throws Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (knee) threw batting practice Wednesday without issue, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Martin, who injured his knee and calf during a benches-clearing dust-up last week, is eligible to come of the disabled list Friday and appears to be on track to serve the minimum 10 days. He'll be evaluated Thursday and Friday, as the Rangers will want to see how he covers first and fields bunts before making a decision.

Rangers' Jake Diekman: Nabs second save despite homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Diekman allowed a run on two hits but still picked up his second save Wednesday against Kansas City.

Diekman gave up a home run right away to Mike Moustakas, but managed to get out of the inning with the help of a caught stealing to end the game. Closer Keone Kela had recorded saves in consecutive games and three of the past four nights heading into Wednesday, and Kela should be expected to slide right back into the closer's role for Texas's next game Friday should the Rangers encounter another save situation.

Rangers' Austin Bibens-Dirkx: Picks up first win with 6.2 strong inning
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bibens-Dirkx (1-1) allowed one run on five hits and a walk through 6.2 innings in a win Wednesday over the Royals.

Bibens-Dirkx gave up a lofty 12 flyballs but still managed to keep the ball in the ballpark as the Royals mustered just two extra-base hits against him. That will be the main thing to watch with Bibens-Dirkx, as his 4.67 ERA in 24 games (six starts) in 2017 can largely be pinned on a brutal 1.8 HR/9. All the Rangers really need right now, though, is somebody who can eat innings, and Bibens-Dirkx most likely did enough to hold onto the rotation spot for at least another turn. If so, his next start will come Tuesday against San Diego.

Rangers' Martin Perez: Hoping to begin rehab assignment Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perez (elbow) is hoping to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Monday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Perez tossed live batting practice Wednesday for the second time in less than a week and reported no issues afterwards. The Rangers are expected to wait and see how the southpaw checks out Thursday before determining the next step in his rehab, but it sounds like he's on the verge of being cleared for minor-league action.
