Angels report: Roster

Roster · Notes, quotes · Inside pitch

--RHP Ervin Santana was given the results of an MRI taken on his right elbow and said "everything is fine." No structural damage was found, and Santana will be given until next week to let the inflammation in his forearm near the elbow clear up. He could return to the rotation as soon as Tuesday against the Rockies or go on the DL if more time is needed.

--RHP Sean O'Sullivan, the fill-in starter Tuesday, became the 12th starting pitcher used by the Angels this season and the 10th rookie to pitch for them this season. Both of those totals lead the major leagues. The Angels used just seven starting pitchers to get through the entire 2008 season.

--DH Vladimir Guerrero will be limited to pinch-hitting during this week's series in San Francisco (and has pinch singles in each of the first two games). But Guerrero has been cleared to begin a throwing program for the first time since suffering a torn pectoral muscle in the spring. He has begun playing catch at a distance of about 75 feet. There is no timetable for when he might be ready to play the outfield.

--C Mike Napoli had the second four-hit game of his career, going 4-for-5 with two singles, a double and a three-run home run. Napoli was in a 5-for-45 skid over 12 games before the series in San Francisco but went 6-for-9 in the first two games there.

CF Torii Hunter (bruised ribs) left the June 15 game after crashing into the outfield wall. He did not start June 16 and is day-to-day.

RHP Ervin Santana (right elbow soreness) was scratched from his scheduled June 16 start. An MRI did not show any structural damage, and he did not go on the disabled list. He will be until at least June 23.

RHP Kelvim Escobar (right shoulder soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 6. He is expected to return June 21.

RHP Shane Loux (right shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 17. He played long-toss June 5.

RHP Scot Shields (left knee tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list May 26. He had season-ending surgery June 16 and was moved to the 60-day DL.

RHP Dustin Moseley (nerve irritation in right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 18, and he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list June 6. He had a setback in mid-May during his rehab at extended spring training. He was cleared to start light throwing in late May but was shut down again because of pain traveling from his neck to his elbow.
