--Class AA RHP Jordan Walden has been placed on the DL for the second time this season with inflammation in his forearm near his pitching elbow. Walden missed time in April and May with a similar problem and was just 1-5 with a 5.25 ERA in eight starts this season. Walden, 21, is considered one of the Angels' top pitching prospects.
--RHP Ervin Santana, with his eight-inning outing Thursday, ran his career record to 10-1 with a 1.35 ERA in 15 career appearances against the A's (including a 5-0 mark in Oakland). A's batters have hit just .190 against Santana over his 100 1/3 innings against them.
--Last weekend's sweep was the Angels' second in the past three series against the Yankees at Angel Stadium. The Angels have won 17 of the past 22 games against the Yankees in Anaheim and are 32-17 overall in their past 49 games against the Yankees. "No, it's not just another team. You have to give them more respect than that," Angels RHP John Lackey said. "As a club, we maybe play up to the competition sometimes, I guess. You can't really explain it (their domination of the Yankees). It's just a weird thing that's happened the last couple years."
BY THE NUMBERS
26 -- Comeback wins in the first half by the Angels, the most in the majors.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"A team that's in first place only has one guy heading that way (to the All-Star Game), you've gotta look at a few things." -- RHP John Lackey on the Angels' having only one representative at the All-Star Game (LHP Brian Fuentes).
