RF Stanton off to slow start

RF Stanton off to slow start · Notes, Quotes · Roster Report

With cool temperatures expected all weekend in Philadelphia, the Marlins will keep a close eye on right-fielder Mike Stanton.

Stanton went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Friday in just his seventh start of the season. He has been hampered by a mild left hamstring strain suffered on April 1 and has not been running at full speed.

Manager Edwin Rodriguez said he won't hesitate to remove Stanton from any game this weekend if the cold weather aggravates his leg.

Stanton is looking for his first home run and is hitting .185 (5-for-27) with four extra base hits, all doubles. He hit three home runs in six games at Citizens Bank Park last season.

Rodriguez said he does not plan on sitting Stanton but said he won't hesitate to lift Stanton if the game gets out of hand.

Scott Cousins was a late-inning replacement for Stanton in the outfield the last two games.
