Third base will be manned by Dobbs, Helms · Roster Report · Notes, Quotes

Even before Donnie Murphy went on the disabled list Monday, manager Edwin Rodriguez was using Greg Dobbs as his third baseman. Dobbs can expect more playing time, but he will share it with Wes Helms.

"Regardless of what happens with Donnie Murphy. we're going to stay like that -- Dobbs and Wes getting the playing time," Rodriguez said Monday.

Murphy, the Marlins' Opening Day third baseman, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right wrist inflammation, retroactive to Saturday. Murphy will play off the bench when he returns.

Dobbs was scheduled to make his third straight start at third base Monday.

"I'm not looking to solidify myself at a certain position," he said. "I'm looking at playing hard, playing to win."

Dobbs, a left-handed hitter, will get most starts since he will face right-handed pitchers, against whom he is batting .372, including 6-for-13 since April 23.

Outfielder Bryan Petersen was recalled from Class AAA New Orleans to take Murphy's roster spot. Petersen was hitting .342 with 10 RBI in 22 games for the Zephyrs.
